Liliana Middlebrooks was nominated by her colleague, Bridget Winkle.
There are so many wonderful things to say about this amazing woman and teacher. Mrs. Middlebrooks is an inspirational educator, mentor, and friend to everyone she encounters. She builds positive relationships with parents, students, faculty, and the community through her service in both the Big Brothers Big Sisters program and the AVID program. Through the Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) program, Mrs. Middlebrooks mentors two students at Irving High during school, tutoring, and through program events.
Mrs. Middlebrooks is the AVID Coordinator for Irving High School and teaches grades 9-12. Each year, she provides professional development for the faculty and staff of Irving High, as well as the district, so teachers can learn best practices and can influence student achievement on campus. She works tirelessly with the AVID team to plan and make sure that by the time seniors are ready to graduate, they are accepted into multiple four-year universities. In addition, she spends countless hours looking for scholarship money and helping students craft their essays. She guides them and practices interviews with them before they meet with scholarship boards and committees. She helps students and their parents apply for FASFA and TASFA. She helps students meet hard deadlines and acts as a second mother to most, checking up on their grades and insuring that each of her seniors meets graduate requirements and has a plan for life after high school.
In addition to her teaching load, Mrs. Middlebrooks is the campus AVID coordinators who works with others at the district-level to create engaging professional development for the district, she serves on our campus leadership cadre, and our PBIS campus committee. She is more than willing to give up her conference period to help another teacher. Often, you can find her collaboratively brainstorming creative activities with other teachers, or “popping” into new teacher classrooms to help them discover better strategies improve their classroom management system. To her, teaching is not “just a job;” it is her passion, her calling, her life.

Mrs. Middlebrooks is one of the most dedicated, talented, and passionate teachers I have worked with. She is always willing to help a student, or coworker in need, and does everything with a pleasure. It has been a pleasure working with her in a professional capacity and getting to know her personally. She is deserving of this award and more.
I’ve had the privilege of working with Lili and her AVID class this year through BBBS mentor2.0 and I agree she is not recognized enough. Lili is an incredible teacher and I’ve said before that I would’ve loved her as one of my teachers. Lili is an incredible teacher not only because of her technical skill in things like classroom management and instruction, but also because of the compassion, understanding and positivity she uses to build a safe, welcoming environment for her students. Although she graduated from high school and college a year or two ago, she doesn’t let herself forget what it feels like to be a young adult with questions, hardships and responsibilities to tackle while still being expected to perform well in school. It’s very clear that she was meant to be a teacher, and it shows in everything she does for her students and others every day.
Mrs. Middlebrooks is an extremely talented teacher, leader, and friend. She consistently strives to provide relevant and engaging activities for her students, and she actively shares her passion for teaching through professional development. ????
Mrs. Middlebrooks is such a strong advocate for all students in AVID and beyond. She has been such a valuable resource to our program and our students. She has dedicated so much of her time and efforts to making AVID stronger in our district.

I was a brand new coordinator during 2018-2019 and Liliana was an absolute angel!!! She shared her extensive expertise with me generously and saved me countless headaches. I just can't say enough about her kind spirit, love and dedication to her students. She is truly a gift.

I've known Liliana for the past 7 years. She started as the AVID Coordinator at Irving HS the year after me and she makes it look effortless. She is always so helpful, giving, and kind to all of her fellow teachers. She takes the time to mentor new coordinators and is willing to share anything and everything that she has created or found. She is dedicated to her students and has helped them find amazing scholarships to help them achieve their college dreams. She truly is a life-changer!
I had the opportunity to work with Liliana Middlebrooks as an AVID Coordinator. She is an amazing person and teacher. Liliana always goes above and beyond for any person and task she is given. This past year, she taught seniors and found odd scholarships that other people were not familiar with normally. I can always count on her for help and a positive attitude. When she is at work, she is mentally and emotionally involved 100%.
She impacts so many people just by being herself. She has changed the lives of her seniors by helping first generation college students get full ride to universities and colleges. Without her, these students wouldn't have the huge opportunity to go to college without the financial burden to their families. I can't imagine anyone who deserves this award more than Liliana.

Even though Liliana is at a different school, I have always enjoyed spending time with her during AVID trainings and district meetings. Liliana has always been very professional in her interactions with peers, and I truly appreciate her positive attitude. She is a true role model for not only her students but for us veteran teachers as well.
Mrs. Middlebrooks has been an inspiration to all the AVID instructors in our district. She is ever vigilant in her mentoring and support for new teachers to the content such as myself.

Liliana is a team player in every sense of the word. When I first started coordinating AVID, she reached out to me to share her resources and encourage me. Liliana is supportive and answered all of my cries for help.

For example, Mrs. Middlebrooks works tirelessly to help her students not only gain acceptance to college, but find ways to pay for their college educations with grants and scholarships. She's so passionate about making college available to all her students, she was the driving force behind multiple campus-funded scholarships through the Irving Schools Foundation for her students. I had the privilege of working with Mrs. Middlebrooks as an AVID Tutor after stepping out of my own classroom to pursue a graduate degree. She is kind, nurturing to her students, supportive of her colleagues, and a consistently positive presence both in and out of her classroom. She works hard to support not only her students, but also teachers new to the profession and the AVID tutors who work with her kids. Liliana has a servant's heart and continually makes selfless investments in others, regardless of their position in life.
I've known Mrs. Middlebrooks for about 10 years now; first as a student and then I got the opportunity to work with her at Irving High. Not only does she do an amazing job encouraging students every day to go to college but she provides strategies to help them in their classes. She cares about the students and she constantly demonstrates them. Very dedicated and hardwoking teacher, leader, mother, wife, friend. She's a great role model and anyone that's around her gets no th ing but positive energy.

I’ve worked with Liliana for a number of years at Irving High School and she is an outstanding educator committed to helping our students get into the right college to pursue their goals. She devoted her time to helping them find scholarships, advocating on their behalf and celebrating their successes. This past year, largely due to her efforts the staff on our campus funded multiple scholarships through the Irving Schools Foundation for our students. Liliana Middlebrooks impresses me every day. I met her seven years ago when she was a fellow English teacher, and I immediately noticed her kindness, strength, and presence in the classroom. Lili has since moved to teaching AVID, and now is the AVID coordinator, and she still infuses the teachings from English into her AVID classroom. As an English teacher, having a student who is enrolled in Lili's AVID class in addition to mine is so helpful. She takes the time to conference with the students to determine what they need to be successful in my class in addition to hers, and she reinforces the skills I teach in her classroom. As a teacher, having Lili available to lead us with professional development to blend AVID strategies into the classroom helps us reach more students and provide them with the support they need. Lili is one of those professionals who make you wonder how one person can be so innovative and savvy, while simultaneously completing every task at an exceptional level. She is not just an amazing teacher, but she is a supporter of life-long achievement. Lili was able to help our campus endow a Tiger Stripes Scholarship for our students that was entirely campus-funded, and this scholarship was something we never would have thought of doing without her. She makes sure to think of every student in the building; from assisting our seniors with college applications, to teaching our STAAR retesters in the summers, all while supporting the staff and other students in the building. Lili has changed more than just the students' lives; she has changed mine as well, challenging me to do and be my best every day.
Liliana is an amazing teacher, mom, and supportive co-worker. I became an AVID Coordinator and began working with Liliana during my third year of teaching. In addition to collaborating vertical alignment of the AVID program she also helped me grow into a better teacher. I cannot imagine a more deserving woman.
I have had the pleasure of knowing Mrs. Middlebrooks for slightly under a year. Within this short amount of time, I have witnessed the impact that she has on her students as well as her peers. Mrs. Middlebrooks goes above and beyond in all that she does and finds ways to accomplish things when individuals believe that all has been tried. On many occassions I have gone into her classroom to follow up on some things and have heard many side conversations. For instance, one student was mentioning that he could not apply for FAFSA since he was undocumented but also could not apply for TASFA because of some financial situation with family finances. However, Mrs. Middlebrooks made it known to said student that he is capable of getting into the college of his choice and talked him through ways of being able to fund college. Mrs. Middlebrooks always has a positive personality and ensures that you are doing well. If not, I'm sure there's some joke she could say or story she could tell to brighten up your day. All in all, Mrs. Middlebrooks is very deserving of this award and will continue to go past her limits to achieve what needs to be done.
I have worked with Mrs. Middlebrooks for four years now. She started as my mentor when I began teaching and has been a fantastic co-coordinator for the AVID program these last two years. Thanks to her, our school's AVID program continues to grow and more of our students continue to attain massive amounts of scholarships on an annual basis because she never stops looking for financial aid opportunities for them. She encourages the shy and bright students to apply for schools well out of their comfort zones and motivates the students that often belittle themselves to once again believe in their capability of fighting for a better future.
Liliana is truly a gracious leader and collaborator, willing to accept ideas from others and implement them with enthusiasm. She answers questions and guides those of us who have less experience mentoring students. I appreciate her friendship and mentoring. Even though we work on different campuses within the same district, I know she is just a phone call away.
Liliana Middlebrooks is an unselfish, student-centered teacher. She supports the dreams of her students, and she helps them to make those dreams BIG. Liliana is truly a lifelong learner and constantly strives to stretch herself personally and professionally. Her ethics and compassion make her a great role model and inspiration for her students and colleagues.
