Angelina Contreras was nominated by her principal, Jeffrey Brown.
As Harmony’s Associated Student Body Director and English teacher, Ms. Contreras is responsible for shaping and encouraging students to be their best. She sets high standards within the student leadership group which is constantly growing its membership. Ms. Contreras is a relentless organizer of school-related functions through her ASB group and the 13 clubs on campus. She has fostered a deep sense of community responsibility in the student body through campus events and volunteer work. Some of the activities Ms. Contreras coordinates include back to school night, back to school dance, assemblies throughout the year, club rush day, sports rallies, 911 remembrance day, dress for success days, homecoming week, engineering week, Harmony’s got talent week, harvest festival, Winter and Spring formals, and senior brunch. She also works directly with students, supporting toys for tots, local and regional food banks, and pennies for patients.
The culture at Harmony is socially and emotionally supportive of students in their overall development. Ms. Contreras is largely responsible for producing students who are future leaders. For the second year in a row, she was selected to be the supporting teacher of the Harmony student chosen to receive Kevin McCarty’s 23rd Congressional District of California Merit Award.
Ms. Contreras has also taken steps to improve professionally. She attends the California Association of Directors of Activities conference yearly. She has participated in summer professional developments in collaborative learning, Google Classroom, and engineering pathway development. She has also taken Advanced Placement teacher training.

There is not enough I can say about Angelina. She was my teacher and student council advisor for three years and throughout that time I've seen her grow as a teacher and advisor, as well as shape the student body into what it is today: spirited, strong, and full of energy. I not only consider her an academic mentor, but because of her care and concern for her students' wellbeing and academic achievement, she also became one of my life's mentors. Whenever I needed someone to listen to me or someone to help me organize my overwhelming schedule and thoughts, I'd go to her. She helped me become a stronger person, leader, motivated scholar, and helped me become ready for the world that awaited after high school. Students confide in her to be a listening ear and guide for their struggles both inside and outside of school. She never turns a cheek to any concern, and makes people feel welcome and included at all times. When she started teaching at Harmony she took on the role as ASB advisor with so much determination and fearlessness, it seemed as if she'd been doing it for years. It's absolutely amazing how brilliant she is when it comes to teaching and enlightening her students because she will not stop working until you've reached your goal or developed a skill you wish to attain. If there is something you do not understand, she will find a way to teach it to you. She changes the lives of students by encouraging them to be their best selves and to keep up the hard work. If there's anything that sets aside Mrs. Contreras from other teachers, is that you can always depend on her to be there for you no matter the cause, and you will never hear her complain or ask for anything in return. If you want an answer, if you want help, if you want creativity and delegation, or even a great lifetime friend and coach, see Mrs. Contreras. I'm proud to see her being nominated for her hard work and contributions to the school. I don't think Harmony Magnet Academy would've been the same without her, and honestly, neither would I.

It is a pleasure to work with Angelina Contreras. She sets high standards for her students and helps them achieve them. No matter how busy she is, she has always made time to help me with club activities or planning for English classes. I appreciate her positive attitude and integrity.

Mrs. Contreras is an extraordinary educator with a passion for helping students succeed despite the challenges and barriers before each one of them. Moreover, she is a stellar example for teachers and students alike, which can be attributed to her inspiring, contagious leadership.

Angelina was my student teacher at Madison High School in San Diego. I enjoyed working with her through out the semester and appreciated watching her grow as an educator at the beginning of her career. I knew she was going to be an amazing teacher and am proud to say I knew her when she was just a student teacher. Congrats and well deserved Angelina!

Since Angelina has become a member of our staff she has done nothing but bring positive and dynamic changes to the school and staff. When Angelina took over the student council, she transformed a muddled almost comic situation. She has made the Student Council into a well structured, involved, productive, body on the campus. The Student Council is not only involved on the campus, but in the community, helping those in need, and at the same time making our students aware of what is really happening in our small community, and the needs that are waiting to be met.
As an instructor she is incredible. Her students are always on task, involved in their work , well mannered, and focused on learning. Her students get more form her that just instruction, she helps them realize the possibilities that await them.
Mrs. Contreras works tirelessly to promote positive activities for Harmony students.
Ms. Contreras is always friendly and her positive attitude rubs off on whomever she encounters.
I highly respect Angelina and admire her professionalism. She is always available when a student needs assistance or if they have questions. Her organizational skills are admirable but what separates her from the rest is her uncanny ability to turn a negative situation into a positive one.
It is a pleasure and an honor to work with her.
