Ms. Mitchell has overcome many obstacles to fulfill her committment to further student literacy. After she became a widow at an early age, she returned to university to earn a Master's in Library Information Science. She has spent the last five years in the Mississippi delta where many schools have consistently rated failing in education. Her vision is to provide a state-of-the-art library media center where students and teachers can have the best in literacy resources. Through her efforts, her school library exceed Mississippi Department of Education standards with a minimum budget in all areas. Teachers follow her leadership in collaboration and her principal trusts her leadership. Students are making progress as they learn to love reading.
