LifeChanger of the Year Nominee Profile

Sara Hermanson was nominated anonymously.

Ms. Hermanson creates a positive classroom environment by getting to know all students and letting them get to know each other. Her first-graders know she values them through conversations at the start of the day, recess, and whenever they can just chat. If Ms. Hermanson models treating others with respect, the students will follow. Another thing she started a few years ago that she will never take away from the classroom routine, is a focus on play! Ms. Hermanson teaches first grade and believes kids that age need unstructured play, because that is where they learn to problem-solve and how to get along with one another.
