Cody Vaughan — First Grade Teacher, Antlers Elementary
Cody Vaughan is a dedicated educator at Antlers Elementary who is currently in his eighth year of teaching. He began his career teaching kindergarten and, for the past seven years, has devoted himself to teaching first grade—a role that has allowed him to help young students build the academic skills, confidence, and love of learning that will serve as the foundation for the rest of their education.
Cody graduated from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in 2018 with a degree in Elementary Education. Since entering the classroom, he has made it his mission to create an environment where every student feels valued, supported, and capable of success. He understands that the earliest years of a child's education can have a lasting impact, and he works each day to make that impact a positive one.
For Cody, teaching goes far beyond reading, writing, and mathematics. He believes some of the most meaningful lessons children learn at school are believing in themselves, showing kindness to others, persevering when something is difficult, and discovering that learning can be exciting. His classroom is a place where students are encouraged to take chances, celebrate their growth, and know that their teacher is always in their corner.
Cody strives to make his students' first-grade experience one they will remember. From engaging lessons and hands-on activities to classroom celebrations, learning incentives, and special experiences, he continually looks for ways to make school meaningful and exciting. His goal is for students to walk through the classroom door each morning knowing they belong and looking forward to what the day will bring.
His dedication to students has also been recognized beyond his classroom. Cody was honored as a JOM Teacher of the Year, a recognition that reflects the relationships he builds with students and his commitment to helping children from all backgrounds feel seen, encouraged, and successful.
Cody also recognizes that educating a child is a partnership. He works to build strong relationships with families and provides parents with practical ways to continue learning at home. He values collaboration with his fellow educators and takes great pride in being part of the Antlers Elementary and Bearcat community.
At the heart of Cody Vaughan's teaching philosophy is a simple but powerful belief: every child deserves a teacher who believes in them. He wants his students to leave first grade with more than stronger academic skills. He wants them to leave with confidence in themselves, memories that make them smile, and the knowledge that they had a teacher who genuinely cared about their success.
Now in his eighth year in education, Cody continues to approach the classroom with the same purpose that brought him to teaching: to make a difference, one child at a time. For him, being a LifeChanger is not defined by one lesson, one accomplishment, or one school year. It is found in the countless small moments when a child realizes, “I can do this,” and begins to believe in what they can do!
