Joshlyn Jensen was nominated anonymously.

Ms. Jensen believes there are several components that are necessary for a positive classroom environment. First, she hosts a morning meeting at the beginning of each day. She and her students sing SEL (social-emotional learning) songs, ask and answer a shared question of the day, and do a team/partner building activity. Second, building relationships with each student individually is key to a positive environment. This enables her to know what each student needs to make learning accessible and successful. Lastly, she researches and adopts a variety of learning tools and designated SEL areas in her classroom that enable students to fulfill their academic and social-emotional needs (alternative seating, writing tools, reading tools, manipulatives, calming corner, library, class pet fish, and other supports).
