After 21 years of teaching, Ms. Sammis still believes a positive classroom environment is the most important aspect of her role. She accomplishes this easily and quickly year after year. She fully believes a positive environment begins with building strong relationships with the students and their families, as well. Everyone needs to have a space where they feel safe, valued, and capable of success. This is most easily accomplished when expectations and routines are clear and consistent, and communication is open, honest, and frequent. Also, when building relationships, she focuses on getting to know the whole student and allowing the families to get to know her.
