Deidre Disman was nominated anonymously. 

Ms. Disman welcomes every student. She makes it clear that everyone belongs in her classroom family, and their voice matters. She listens when something's troubling students, follows up, and makes it known she has their back when they need support. She teaches and models respect and kindness for everyone!

She teaches and practices life skills daily such as how to speak to others, listen actively, disagree respectfully, and honor different opinions. She builds tolerance and appreciation for differences by highlighting diverse perspectives, using inclusive materials, and setting norms that value curiosity over judgment. She celebrates students' small wins, whether it's answering a tough question, showing persistence, or helping a classmate. Ms. Disman encourages students to feel proud of their growth. She gives feedback that is specific, timely, and growth-focused, and offers second chances and reflection to reinforce learning, not just grades! 

Finally, Ms. Disman models what she teaches. She admits mistakes, apologizes when needed, and shows how to resolve conflict constructively. Together, these practices create a classroom where students feel seen, supported, and motivated to learn and where kindness and respect are the default.

She is transitioning to an Intervention Specialist after teaching 30 years in the general education classroom. She hopes to create a safe zone in her room. Many students struggle with emotional regulation, and having a dedicated space for cooling down will provide them with essential strategies to manage their feelings. This safe zone will promote emotional well-being and foster a welcoming classroom atmosphere.
