In Ms. Beal's PreK classroom, she creates a positive learning environment by building nurturing relationships and ensuring every child feels safe, valued, and included. She provides hands-on, play-based, and outdoor learning experiences that encourage curiosity, creativity, and social-emotional growth. By fostering independence, collaboration, and a love of learning, Ms. Beal helps children develop the confidence and foundational skills they need to thrive in school and beyond.

Ms. Beal leads a Forest School program that is fully integrated into the public Pre-K classroom, meaning children learn outdoors year-round, including during the winter months. The outdoor classroom is an essential part of the curriculum, where students develop early literacy and math skills, strengthen gross motor development, build social-emotional skills, and learn through hands-on exploration in nature. Many families in the rural community, however, have limited financial resources. They cannot afford insulated boots, waterproof mittens, snow pants, warm coats, hats, and other winter gear needed for children to participate comfortably and safely. Without appropriate clothing, students often miss valuable outdoor learning opportunities or are unable to stay outside long enough to engage in lessons and play fully.

Providing winter gear would ensure that every child has equal access to the outdoor classroom regardless of their family's financial circumstances. Students would be able to explore, investigate, create, and learn in all seasons while staying warm, dry, and comfortable. This support would remove barriers to participation, promote equity, improve attendance during outdoor learning, and enable every child to experience the physical, social, emotional, and academic benefits of the Forest School program.
