She encourages the use of positive language (instead of saying “I can’t,” change it to “I can’t yet.”), teaching her students healthy ways to express their emotions, praising positive behaviors, and encouraging reflection when things go wrong.

Ms. Littleton ensures each and every student feels welcome, valued, and loved in her classroom. She remains calm and composed in stressful situations so that she can help her students regulate, and she makes it clear that each day is a new opportunity to start again.
