Sara Creek was nominated by her colleague, Erica Butler. 

At Illinois Valley High School, Ms. Creek often says she would "fight a bear" for her students. Anyone who knows her understands that this is far more than a saying. Ms. Creek is a fierce advocate, mentor, and champion for every student she serves.

As the College and Career Coordinator, she goes far beyond her position's responsibilities, investing countless hours to help students overcome obstacles, discover opportunities, and build confidence in their futures. Whether she is arranging career-shadowing experiences, helping with homework, guiding students through postsecondary planning, or simply providing encouragement on a difficult day, Ms. Creek ensures that every student feels seen, valued, and capable of success. Her infectious positivity, unwavering belief in students, and relentless determination inspire those around her to aim higher and persevere through challenges.

Ms. Creek collaborates closely with staff, families, and community partners to create pathways for student success through goal-setting, progress monitoring, and individualized support. A lifelong member of the Illinois Valley community, she has dedicated decades to making her hometown a better place through education. Students know that when she is walking beside them, they are never alone and that success is within reach.
