Music that Describes Vicki Jena
Vicki Jena Kugel-Brandt was nominated anonymously.
There are people whose impact is measured by titles, accomplishments, or years of service. Then there are people like Mrs. Kugel-Brandt, whose impact is measured by the lives she changes every day. Known to students and staff simply as "KB," she is the kind of leader who quietly and consistently puts others before herself. Whether advocating for a struggling student, mentoring a teacher, supporting a family, or leading a school initiative, her focus is always the same: helping others succeed.
What makes KB extraordinary is not simply what she does, but how she does it. She leads with compassion, humility, and an unwavering belief in every student's potential.
As Assistant Principal at Cibola High School, she has dedicated her career to creating opportunities for students, particularly those who may not have a voice of their own. She is a pillar within the special services community, ensuring that students receive the support, resources, and advocacy they need to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Her work has changed the trajectory of countless young lives because she refuses to let students be defined by their challenges or circumstances.
Her influence extends far beyond special services. KB oversees all student clubs and activities for a campus of approximately 2,400 students, a responsibility that requires exceptional organization, collaboration, and dedication. Through her leadership, students are provided opportunities to connect, grow, and discover their passions outside the classroom. She understands that a positive school experience is built through relationships, involvement, and a sense of belonging, and she works tirelessly to ensure every student has the opportunity to find that connection.
One of KB's greatest strengths is her ability to foster a positive, nurturing school atmosphere. Students know they will be treated fairly, respectfully, and with compassion. Her approach to discipline is redemptive rather than punitive. She seeks to understand before judging and to teach before punishing. She believes mistakes should become opportunities for growth and learning rather than labels that follow students throughout their educational journey. As a result, she has earned the trust and respect of students, families, and staff alike.
Her leadership style is equally impactful among faculty and staff. Rather than simply directing others, KB coaches through encouragement, kindness, and support. She is always willing to share her expertise, model best practices, and work alongside teachers to help them grow professionally. Her collaborative approach fosters confidence, trust, and continuous improvement. Many educators have become stronger in their craft because of her willingness to invest her time, knowledge, and energy into helping them succeed.
What many people do not realize is that some of KB's most remarkable contributions have come while facing challenges that would cause most people to step away. During the 2024-2025 school year, she was flown to Phoenix after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and underwent a Whipple procedure. Following surgery, she endured months of chemotherapy. Throughout her treatment, she remained positive, encouraging, and focused on serving others. Even as she lost physical strength, she continued showing up for students and staff with the same warmth, optimism, and professionalism that have always defined her leadership.
The following year brought even greater adversity. Her cancer metastasized, resulting in additional procedures, treatments, and time away from campus. During this same period, she also experienced the heartbreaking loss of both of her parents. Despite carrying the weight of profound personal grief while facing Stage IV cancer and undergoing chemotherapy once again, KB remains a beacon of light for the entire Cibola community. Very few people know the full extent of her personal struggles because she has never wanted the focus to be on herself. Instead, she continues to pour her energy into supporting students, staff, and families.
Her resilience, courage, and selflessness have inspired everyone fortunate enough to work alongside her. Through every challenge, she has never wavered in her commitment to students. She continues to attend events, support activities, advocate for children, mentor staff, and lead with grace. Her purpose has always been to serve others, and she demonstrates that commitment every single day. While many people facing such circumstances would understandably step back, KB continues to move forward with strength, faith, and an unwavering dedication to the school community she loves.
"Mrs. KB exemplifies the very qualities this award seeks to recognize. She has demonstrated a proven ability to make a positive difference in students' lives, to create a positive and nurturing school atmosphere, to provide outstanding leadership within her school, to maintain a record of excellence throughout her career, and to consistently uphold the highest moral and ethical standards. More importantly, she has done so while modeling compassion, resilience, and selfless service for everyone around her. Mrs. KB is an inspiration to those around her. Her impact cannot be measured solely by the programs she oversees, the decisions she makes, or the responsibilities she carries. It is measured by the students who found hope because she believed in them, the educators who became stronger because she mentored them, and the countless individuals whose lives have been enriched by her kindness and leadership," said the nominator. "Even in the face of unimaginable personal challenges, she continues to put others first and serve as a source of strength for an entire school community. For these reasons, and so many more, Vicki Jena Kugel-Brandt is exceptionally deserving of recognition as a LifeChanger of the Year."
Ms KB was a vital part in my son’s life. When my son was in daycare are he had a traumatic event that could have shaped how his future would play out. When we got to DVA where Mrs KB was the Vice Principle, she fought for my son and was there every step of the way in helping us find help and teach him how to move on from his trauma. She is an amazing person who legitimately cares for all of her students. It is a blessing to me and my family to know here and I can’t think of a better person whom I trust my children’s care to.
Mrs KB is the reason my son Eddie was successful in high school. She loved him and believe in him. She treat him like family and we will always appreciate that. She never give up on him. She deserve this honor for being so patient and kind to students and parents.
KB is an incredible human being. Her love and care of her students is beyond words. It’s time for all of us to show our love and care of her.
I have worked with KB at the high school district. She is amazing. She worked really hard to make sure that the kids at Cibola got the most appropriate services to succeed. I enjoyed working with her and wish her the best.
The nomination is well deserved.
We are pulling for you Mrs KB. You deserve this award and so very much more! Team KB all the way!!
Mrs KB single-handedly taught our family how to read IEPs and advocate for our child. She believed that he was capable of great things and should not be limited by his label. Because of her, he grew and spread his wings. She was with him throughout elementary and high school and was always a phone call away even when she wasn’t his vice principal. Mrs KB we love you. Thank you for looking at each student’s heart and abilities. You are a TRUE lifechanger.
KB you have always been there for everyone else. Now we’re are here for you. We got you! Keep your unwavering faith! KB strong!
I had the privilege of working with Jena in the 1990s, and I can say without hesitation that her character was exceptional. She consistently performed at the highest level and was entrusted with significant company assets, which she protected with the utmost integrity and care.
Jena has always been honest, loyal, and incredibly hardworking. One quality that always stood out was her willingness to speak the truth, even to those in positions of authority. That kind of honesty earned her the respect and admiration of many of us who worked alongside her.
Reading about the positive impact she has had on so many lives comes as no surprise to me. Jena has always possessed that rare, unforgettable quality that draws people in and inspires them. She is the kind of person who changes lives without even realizing the profound effect she has on others.
I wholeheartedly support this nomination.
KB, we are rooting for you, we are praying for you! We love you, and your beautiful smile, keep being a light ????
KB has a way of saying things that stay with you long after the moment has passed. It’s often the little comments and thoughtful cards that I hold close because they’ve encouraged me, challenged me, and helped me grow.
She has always held me accountable, and even when she’s been firm, I’ve known it came from a place of genuine care. She is a true advocate for both teachers and students and wants everyone to become the best version of themselves. I’m grateful for the impact she’s had on my life.
I can’t help but to smile when I read the comments, everyone is making towards the beloved KB (Jena) as I know her.. folks everything that you say about her is not just her being professional or in a position as a principal, I have known this woman for 40 years or more and she hasn’t changed. She has been this way as her true self as long as I can never remember.
Let me tell you what she put up with from me and the guys that we ran with she’s a St. She touched all of her lives back then and she continues to touch them today like we never spent any years or time apart. Her heart is true. She is quite the inspiration and a strong woman capable of literally anything. I know that she is touched my life deeply. I can only imagine how many people she is affected with her love and her kindness and her warm heart as well as her foot in someone’s ass when she needs to cause she’s not a punk I’m very honored to be writing about my friend. She’s an inspiration. She will continue to march on like a soldier/ warrior
Because that’s who she is…..
Love you dearly ol’friend

Jena has always been a champion for others now we are here for her! Healing prayers your way!!!
Jena is and always will be my hero. She was long before this an amazing woman to be admired. As I saw how she dealt with students faculty and her co workers I often emulated her by saying to myself what would Jena do.
And to Jena you are my sister in courage
Ms. Kugel has changed many lives by being there for her students and their families without hesitation. She has still had a hand in my life personally even after many years of not being my teacher. She still stays in contact with my family and still checks in on how myself and my own family is doing. She has always put others before herself no matter what she is going through in her personal life. Jena tries so hard to make everyone feel comfortable and welcome in all and every situation.
I am proud to nominate KB as a Lifechanger.
KB consistently models decency, compassion, empathy, fairness, and humanity in everything she does. She would rather make someone laugh than listen to gossip, and she leads by example rather than by telling others what to do.
She has a unique ability to make people feel seen and valued, always choosing to shine the spotlight on others instead of herself. Through her kindness, humility, and genuine care, she has touched countless lives.
In every interaction I’ve had with KB, she has demonstrated the values this award represents. She has taught me a great deal simply by the way she lives and treats others, and I can’t think of anyone more deserving of this recognition.
Mrs. KB, hmmm we’re go I even begin? She was the Vice Principal at DVA when my oldest son, Deegan was there. He adored her. Then I grew to adore her as well. She became his safe place, he was struggling with ADHD and fitting in inside his classroom. On a few occasions he walked himself to her office before he got sent there. KB was his girl. We love her and her heart for the kids she serves. I know that she was a safe space for more than just my boy. I’m very grateful for her. We love you so much KB! No one deserves this more.

KB my assistant principal during my first two years of teaching, she made a lasting impact on both my career and my confidence as an educator. She led with kindness, honesty, and support, always taking the time to mentor and encourage those around her. Even 10 years later, I still carry the lessons she taught me. KB changes lives through her leadership, compassion, and genuine commitment to helping others succeed, making her truly deserving of this recognition.
I have known Jena for over 25 years, first as a neighbor, then as a friend, and finally as a family member. Jena is a strong, funny, smart and beautiful woman who has touched so many lives, leading with integrity and compassion. She encourages her students (and all of us) to dream big and expects and guides them to make good decisions. Her leadership has never been about titles or recognition; it has always been about people. Jena is truly a LifeChanger—she has made a difference in her students’ lives and in our community that will be felt long after today, and we are all better because of her. Love you Jena!
We are praying for this talented and devoted lady to her students and staff at her school. God….. please answer our prayers from Texas because she is loved and respected by a multitude of family and friends. Mostly because we need more dedicated professionals like Jena at work for her students than being at home dedicated to their illness.
Jena you have always been such an amazing person. I know you have had a positive impact on many. Keep fighting! You’re in my prayers. ??
Jena is a person with high morals and integrity. She speaks the truth even when it’s hard to hear which is refreshing. In all the years my children were in school we measured teachers by her standards. None could compare. Jenas heart was the purest of all educators we’d ever met. Her love for her students and her drive to make them the best was relentless. Our children are now successful members of society largely due to the foundation she laid for them. No words will ever be enough to thank her for her profound influence on their lives and ours. This recognition is certainly deserved but it seems small in comparison to how much she’s done over the course of her life. Please consider her for this award.
Ms. KB was instrumental in helping both of our children receive the support they needed through the IEP process, even before they were diagnosed with dyslexia. She was a tireless advocate for our children and a source of guidance and encouragement for our family during what was often an overwhelming journey. Her compassion, dedication, and belief in our children made a lasting difference in their educational success and confidence. We are deeply grateful for her impact and cannot think of anyone more deserving of this recognition.

I was in Mrs Kugel’s class when I was in second grade. I still remember that year like it happened yesterday. September 11th happened and Mrs Kugel taught us all about it. We wrote to deployed marines and they wrote back all year long. We composed a class letter to President Bush and he wrote back. We visited the marines flight room and the base when they came home, and those are only a sliver of the things we did in her class. She taught us that we were smart and unstoppable. She was right. I will always love her for pushing us to be more. Because of her influence, I am a better person today and so are my children.
Mrs. KB is one of the best educators out there! It’s not “just a job” she truly cares about her students! She cares about their future and helps them succeed by encouraging and supporting them. Not only does this go for students but she also supports families. My son is in SPED, many times I sat in her office and cried because I was overwhelmed with my child’s struggles. She helped us come up with an educational plan tailored to my child needs which supported his learning challenges. She always comforted me and reassured me that he is doing great and he’d be just fine. Knowing my child was under her watch gave me peace and comfort. Mrs. KB gives her all. We love you Mrs. KB!!!!
KB is a transformative educator. Driven by a profound love for working with children, she brings an unmatched work ethic and joyful energy to her role every single day. She has changed countless lives through her dedication to both student success and staff development.
Life changer? You bet. Mine and probably thousands of others. KB has an attribute rarely seen. She has a great mind AND a great heart. They work in perfect balance. She is sharp and personable; logical, yet fun. I recall clearly what it was like to work for her. I knew I would never have a job that great again. That is why I cried like a baby my last day at Cibola. She loves her students. During the summer, when staff are kicking back- KB is chomping at the bit. She’s looking forward to those kids coming back to school. If ever someone was deserving of this award, it’s KB. Please select my sister in Christ- a true Daughter of the King.
KB was my assistant principal during a time when I struggled to fit in and often found myself getting into trouble. What made her different was that she believed in me even when I did not believe in myself.
I remember her asking me to write about what made me special. At first, I thought it was stupid because I could not think of anything. Then she told me what she saw in me. Before that, no one at school had really said kind things about me or helped me see my own potential.
She told me she did not want me to let her down, and I did not. Because of her belief in me, I started making better choices. I grew into a more confident and successful person, and I will always carry her encouragement with me.
KB will always have a special place in my heart.
Jena is an amazing person, who has been a leader in education for many years. She is supportive, strong, yet kind and gentle. Her daughter, Morgan, is an example of Jena’s teaching and example of leadership and service to others. I have known Jena as a parent of my little kindergarten student, Morgan , who had been, and is, in the U. S. Military. I taught school with Jena as my assistant principal for three years after I retired from teaching various elementary grades for 28 years. Her Christian principles are evident in how she interacts with everyone, both in professional and personal situation.
It is my honor to support Jena Kugel, KB.
She is truly a Life Changer.
There are so many things and words that describe KB !
To me, she is an amazing, strong, beautiful, and kind woman that I met ten years when I applied at Desert View.
She is a beacon of light, always making sure you are okay and students adore her.
I truly believe she deserves to be recognized and so blessed she is a friend/mentor to me.
I met her when she we were much younger. I was a single mom of 3 young kids and had just left a very abusive marriage. When I met her I had very low self esteem and felt like a total failure in everything going on in my life. She came into my life through a church singles group. We immediately clicked and this young lady was the best thing that ever happened to me. She pushed me to do things that I never thought I could possibly do, apply for a job that I thought I would never get that by the way, I did get the job and my career took off. Gave me clothes that made me feel beautiful, I had never felt beautiful before but she told me I was all the time. We had many good times together until she moved out of state. But she left a lasting impression on me that still holds at 63 years old that I can do anything and to just go for it.
Jena has always been such a light and joy to be around. She thinks of the positive in all situations and about others before herself ??
My kids have been blessed by Jena’s influence! She is a teacher among teachers, a teacher of teachers and a leader of leaders. She is compassionate and has a way of putting everyone at ease. Life has not ever been easy but Jena always has a smile and a kind word. The nomination is well-deserved.
In my time as a teacher at CHS Ms. KB was a great influence on the school and community. While this post could be one that runs on and on for all she contributes and works for. I will keep it quite simple. Ms. KB is a genuine and wonderful human who absolutely gets what being a part of the education field is about, the people. She is an absolute specialist in people, relationships, and prioritizing the growth of both those things. She is a fine administrator, but more importantly an even better human. The world could use more Ms. KBs!
KB is a top notch role model for any educator, staff member, student or parent. Her kindness, compassion and perseverance is beyond measure! Anyone who has worked with her or met her is touched by her unwavering smile. ??
Mrs. KB is fierce and awesome, and I will always be thankful for her strength, wisdom, and heart; I met her when I was a frustrated, bitter person working in education, and she met me with daily guidance, steady harsh honesty, and the kind of care that changed me. She held me accountable as a single mom and as an educator working with my beloved rascals, never letting me settle for less than I was capable of being, and she showed up for my sons in grade school and again in high school in ways that mattered deeply when everything felt overwhelming. Through it all, she reminded me that I could keep going, keep showing up, and keep doing the hard things with dignity, and her presence always carried that perfect balance of it's okay and just get it done. I will be forever grateful for her guidance, her grace, and her love without pity. KB is an amazing human. Stay strong.
I grew up with Jena and have known her for probably over 50 years. She's someone who can make people laugh when things are going bad. When we were younger and she wasn't being mischievous she was helping others. After reading nomination and the comments on this page I can tell that she has been that way her whole life. Jena has said her whole life that she wanted to be remembered for the people she helped and the lives she touched. I know she touched mine and I am better for having known her for over 50 years. It seems like her legacy is alive and growing. Please consider her a strong candidate for this award.
KB has been a true inspiration for her love and dedication to the students and school. No one is more deserving than KB. ??????
It’s hard not to get emotional when talking about the love KB poured into my little ones. Especially my one with special needs. She advocated for her, loved her, worked with her, celebrated her. She went above and beyond what someone in the school system would do. I am forever thankful DVA crossed our paths with KB. She is a remarkable human who loves to no end.
I had the pleasure of working with Jena many years ago as advisors for an online school. Jena was always there to support me when I needed it and believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself. We shared so many laughs and got through it all together. I am a better person and educator because of you! ??
KB was an amazing colleague to work with and also an amazing support for my daughter at Cibola! Without KB, I’m not sure my daughter would be on track and about to start her senior year! She has a great impact on all the lives she touches! ??
KB is an amazing person. We started out as professional colleagues over 15 years ago and quickly became friends. She has an incredible way of making those around her believe in themselves. KB is one of the most caring people I know she is there for you no matter how busy she is, she puts others before herself and makes you feel valued and appreciated. She has a way with students that makes the them feel valued regardless of the situation. I am truly blessed to call her my friend!
I met Jenna 4 years ago. She is a wonderful caring person.
KB Strong!
For years as a Health Teacher at Cibola High School, I’ve taught my students that prevention and early detection save lives. Now, as I approach retirement, I’m living that lesson.
When I learned of “KB’s” pancreatic cancer diagnosis, it moved me to action. Six months ago, I asked my doctor about genetic testing. The results revealed that I carry mutations linked to pancreatic cancer. I have an ultrasound scheduled in two weeks to check my pancreas.
“KB” changed the course of my health journey. Her courage inspired me to get screened before symptoms ever appeared. This award represents more than recognition. It represents hope, awareness, and the power of early detection in the fight against pancreatic cancer.
“KB” will always be my guardian angel. For her impact on my life, I am forever indebted. “KB” is a LifeChanger.
I have been a teacher for over 10 years now and when I first started my career, I was fortunate enough to be under the guidance of Mrs. KB! She believed in me, encouraged me and was a big part of my development! Her strong work ethic has always inspired many and there is no one more deserving of this award! Strong, resilient, and devoted! You got this, KB!
Jena Kugel-Brandt is a fantastic supporter for her peers and her students! She continues to overcome all challenges thrown her way in the face of adversity while maintaining a strong and positive attitude. Jena is and should be conisdered one of Yuma's true leaders in her field. Jena exemplifies all that is good in education. She truly deserves to be nominated as Life Changer of the Year.
My sister-in-law is the very definition of a LifeChanger. Throughout her career as an educator and assistant principal, she has dedicated herself to serving students, supporting teachers, and strengthening her school community with compassion, integrity, and unwavering kindness.
She is selfless, generous, and genuine in every sense of the word. She leads by example, always putting the needs of others before her own. Whether she is encouraging a student, mentoring a colleague, or comforting a family during a difficult time, she gives her whole heart to those she serves.
What makes her even more remarkable is her incredible strength. While courageously battling stage 4 pancreatic cancer, she has continued to show up for her students, staff, and community with grace, determination, and hope. Even while facing unimaginable personal challenges, she has remained committed to making a difference in the lives of others. She has never allowed her circumstances to diminish the care, encouragement, and leadership she provides every day.
Her resilience is inspiring, but it is her character that truly sets her apart. She has changed countless lives through her kindness, leadership, and unwavering belief in others. She doesn’t seek recognition or praise, she simply lives each day with purpose and a servant’s heart.
The LifeChanger of the Year Award exists to honor those who make a lasting impact on the lives of others. There is no one more deserving than her. She is an extraordinary educator, an exceptional leader, and an inspiring example of courage, compassion, and selfless service. I love you KB!
KB has truly changed my life. She helped me be a better teacher and person too. She coached me with patience, honesty, and heart, and knew how to encourage me and pushed me to grow.
What I appreciate most is that KB has been there for me in more ways then one. She listened, supported me, and reminded me what I’m capable of when I needed it most. She leads by example, and the way she treats people is something I’ll always try and carry with me.
I’m grateful for her guidance, kindness, and her belief in me. KB is the kind of person who makes others better just by being who she is, and I’m blessed to have learned from her.
I strongly nominate Jena for this. I have known her for many years and always thought she was kind, caring, and nurturing. I have never met her daughter but from the comments, it sounds like she turned out like her mother. Jena was a giving person as a young person and she’s carried that through life. I wish her the best during this time.
I have had the privilege of knowing KB for fifteen years as a mentor, colleague, teacher and leader. With great admiration and without hesitation I can say she embodies the very spirit of honor.
Jena is more than a teacher, leader, mentor – she is a catalyst for transformation. Mentoring me 15 years ago in programs that offered children the opportunity to grow in technology, creativity, engineering, science, and art. Helping me grow with integrity, persistence, and fidelity. From the beginning of our relationship, she touched countless lives, instilling confidence, purpose and hope.
What lifts Vicki Jena Kugel-Bryant above the rest is not just her unwavering dedication, but how she sees protentional where others see obstacles. I have witnessed her turn challenges into opportunities and inspire others to do the same. The ripple effect of her work will be felt for generations to come.
KB is a living example of how one person’s vision, kindness, and leadership can change the course of thousands of lives.
I met Jena over 20 years ago when I enrolled our three children in an online charter school. She was so supportive and caring. She made our transition so smooth. She even supported and attended our in-person play dates. Our children reflect back to those years and recall them some of the best times growing up. She truly is a remarkable person and amazing educator. She is definitely deserving of this recognition.
I had the honor of working alongside Ms. KB during her time as Vice Principal at Desert View Academy. Her leadership had a lasting impact on my growth as both a teacher and a person. She consistently encouraged me to challenge myself, strive for excellence, and become a stronger educator. Beyond her leadership, she was someone I could always rely on for guidance, and support. Her ability to lead with both compassion and high expectations inspired those around her and created a positive environment where teachers and students could thrive. I am incredibly grateful for the influence she has had on my professional journey. No one is more deserving of this award.
KB is the reason why I finished my degree and now teach. She believed in me even when I doubted myself. She is not only a mentor but my dear friend. KB’s ability to bring out the best in people is something that I will always cherish. She has changed my life forever.
I read this and got tears in my eyes. KB has meant so much to me and I never thought to tell her. Now that she’s so sick I don’t know if I’ll ever get the chance to do that again in person. She’s one of the most impactful people I’ve ever known and she’ll never take credit for herself. She’s very happy in the background. Please consider her for this kind of recognition. She’s truly a life changing kind of woman. I love her with my whole heart,
Mrs Kugel was my teacher when I was in kindergarten and I still remember her teaching us all cursive because she said it would be easier for us My handwriting was always the best because of her. She also taught us to read along with so many other great practical life lessons. Now that I’m a new parent, I pray my daughter has someone as special as Mrs Kugel to lay a foundation for her. Mrs Kugel is deeply embedded in my heart for life.
She deserves this honor.
Jena taught my son in middle school and coached his Odyssey of the Mind teams. She had high expectations and my son rose to meet them. We will never forget her impact. We wish her well.
I used to describe Jena as a cat. She was always quiet and observant. She was loving and cautious. Jena observed everything and everyone. She was a watcher. She only acted when it was necessary but when she did it was impactful.
I count her in in all situations and I always want her on my side.
Jena was instrumental in the success of both of my children’s elementary education. She helped them with not only academics but also social skills. Her love and support taught them they could do whatever they set their mind to.
Jena we love you!
Godspeed on your recovery!
It’s hard to know where to begin. I am thankful for KB because she’s a good person with a strong moral compass. I’ve seen her lead by faith without outright saying it. It’s the little things she does. I first worked with her and then for her. She was the same. Someone wrote about how she always wanted what was best for students and it is so true. I saw that daily. She fought for every student like they were her own. She also fought for teachers and families but people might not know that. She’s someone I will always want to be like.
KB hang in there. If anyone can beat cancer, it’s you. You are an inspiration to all of us!
Mrs. KB is more than an exceptional assistant principal, she is the heart of Cibola High School. She leads with kindness, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to every student and staff member she serves. Even while courageously battling cancer, she has continued to show up with strength, grace, and a smile that inspires everyone around her. Her resilience, selflessness, and genuine care for others have changed countless lives. Mrs. KB truly embodies what it means to be a LifeChanger, and this recognition couldn’t be more deserved.
I want to share something from my heart about KB and what she did for my nephew Angel.
There was a time when Angel was struggling and needed somebody who would not turn their back on him. KB stepped in with so much love, patience, guidance, and compassion. She believed in him when he needed someone to believe in him. She helped him see that his life could go in a better direction.
KB did not judge him or give up on him. She showed him kindness, talked to him, guided him, and cared for him like he mattered. And because of that, I saw a real change in Angel.
I will always be grateful for what KB did for my nephew. She helped turn his life around, and that is something our family will never forget. She has a good heart, and I thank God for the love and compassion she showed him.
I just want to encourage Jena like she encouraged her mom every single day.
I got to know her when she would come visit her mom place where I worked. You could tell right away how much she loved her mom. She was so devoted to her and came to see her all the time, even when Jena was real sick. I remember how she would sit there and hold her mom’s hand. Jena was also kind to us. She never acted like she was better than anybody. I knew she worked at Cibola because she would come in wearing Cibola shirts. I hope she gets better. She is a very nice person and the kind of person you don’t forget.
Stay strong. Be healthy and know we are all praying for you.
I’ve had the privilege of working closely with KB. She’s someone who I’ve learned so much from - I’ve been truly grateful for her friendship, mentorship, and care for others!
As a former colleague and a family friend of thirty years, I have witnessed The innumerable positive results of her efforts as an educator over the years. Former students, colleagues, and friends have benefited from their association with Jena, in not only education, but society in general. She truly is one of the most impactful personalities in the community giving and contributing in any manner possible and can be relied on for wise counsel and assistance selflessly. I could not recommend anyone higher.
I had the privilege of getting to know Jena while she was serving as the caregiver for her mother. I saw her often when she came to visit, and what stood out to me most was the grace, kindness, and positivity she brought with her each time.
Being in the role of caregiver is not easy, yet Jena consistently remained upbeat, compassionate, and thoughtful. Her devotion to her mother was evident in everything she did. She was not only attentive and loving toward her mom, but she also treated our staff with genuine warmth and respect, almost as if we were part of her extended family.
Jena’s caring nature, positive attitude, and ability to make others feel valued are qualities that would make her an incredible person to work with. I can only imagine how fortunate any team would be to have someone as kind, dedicated, and compassionate as Jena.
Jena, your positivity makes a difference every day. Thank you for being an inspiration to me.
When I think of KB, I get a huge smile on my face. She is probably the toughest principal I have ever met but the nicest one too. She always knew how to keep things real and how to help me grow as a person. I look back at my time in her office as some of the best times in high school. I learned valuable lessons there. She is wise, kind, caring, and fair. I am successful because of the second and third chances she gave me.
KB is such a strong and inspirational force at Cibola. She truly brings out the best in students, staff, and our community.
I've had the chance to work with Jena professionally, and she's someone you can always count on to do things the right way. She pays close attention to every detail, knows the state and federal requirements inside and out, and makes sure all the due diligence is done before a transaction closes. Just as importantly, she truly cares about the people she works with. She goes out of her way to show appreciation and support for her team in ways you don't often see. Jena has a huge heart, and that comes through in everything she does, both professionally and personally.
You got this Jena! Be strong and courageous.
Jena has always been one of the kindest people I know. She’s the type of person who would give you the shirt off her back if you needed it. While I haven’t worked with her professionally, I have no doubt that the same kindness, compassion, and generosity she shows in her personal life carry over into the workplace. She has a genuine heart, and I’m confident she brings that positive spirit to every situation.
I’m pulling for you Jena. You are amazing and I will always be thankful for you and the love you show for everyone around you.
KB is a genuine person and very deserving of this nomination,
KB exemplifies what it means to be an outstanding educator and leader. She is kind, compassionate, caring, and consistently brings a positive attitude that reflects how much she truly loves what she does. One quality I especially respect is her humility. When she makes a mistake, she sincerely apologizes and takes responsibility, something not everyone is willing to do.
Despite facing challenges that many of us may never fully see or understand, KB continues to show up each day with grace, strength, and dedication. She makes a positive impact on students, helps create a nurturing and supportive environment for learning, demonstrates professional excellence, and upholds the highest ethical standards. KB enhances the culture of our district through her leadership, integrity, and genuine care for others. She is truly deserving of this recognition.
A life changer isn't just about guiding others; it's about putting in the work when things get tough. That kind of resilience is genuinely inspiring.
Jena is an incredible human being and is so deserving of this award! I’ve had the privilege of being her daughter’s best friend for 10 years now. Jena raised a good one!
Jena, I’m blessed to know your daughter Morgan who has told me so much about you and everything that you have been through. Just reading everything that you have done in life is so inspiring and speaks volumes on your character and selflessness. I hope one day to meet you but until then, I will continue to talk with Morgan and hear about all of the wonderful things you have done. You have definitely left a piece of you in Morgan. You are more than deserving of this recognition and I will keep you and your family in my prayers.
Rooting for you, miss KB!
Sending you so much love and congratulations on this nomination. It’s truly heartwarming to see the wonderful work you do. You got this Jena!??
Mrs. Kugel is someone I deeply admire. Even while courageously battling cancer, her dedication to her students and to Cibola High School has never wavered. She continues to show up every day with compassion, strength, and a genuine commitment to helping others. Her students are fortunate to have someone who cares so deeply about their success and well-being. Watching her put others first despite the challenges she is facing has been truly inspiring. Cibola High School is incredibly lucky to have her, and I can think of no one more deserving of the LifeChanger of the Year award.

Jena is an incredible educator whose impact stretches far beyond the classroom. I had the privilege of getting to know her daughter during our time at OCS, and it’s completely obvious how much love, dedication, and integrity Jena puts into raising her family. The exact same care and leadership she instilled in her daughter shine through in her work as an educator every day. I had the distinct privilege of working under KB's leadership for several years at Desert View Academy, where she served as my Vice Principal. In my 14 years of working in Education, she remains one of the most influential individuals I have ever had the pleasure of working with.
?What sets KB apart is her steadfast commitment to people. Whether it was a student in need of support, a staff member facing a challenging situation, or a family searching for help, KB consistently went above and beyond what was expected of her, wearing many hats on campus. It was obvious that she never viewed her role as simply a job title, but as an opportunity to serve the world around her. Her impact extended far beyond the walls of her office and permeated every corner of the school community.
?As an educator, KB is someone I have always looked up to. She possessed the rare ability to be both highly professional and deeply compassionate. No matter how busy she was, she always made time to listen, provide thoughtful guidance, and offer encouragement. She challenged me to grow as an educator in ways I hadn't thought possible and taught me valuable lessons that I will carry with me forever. She was always someone that I knew I could turn to for advice, guidance, or an empathetic ear. Her understanding nature, coupled with high standards and dedication to excellence, made her an exceptional leader and mentor.
?Throughout her career, KB has accumulated countless accomplishments and positively impacted thousands of lives, yet she has never been someone who sought recognition for any of it. In fact, she often avoided the spotlight because her focus was never on receiving praise or accolades. Her greatest reward has always been seeing students succeed, watching educators grow, and knowing she has made a difference in the lives of others. Humility is one of the many qualities that make her such an extraordinary leader.
?KB is truly a force to be reckoned with. Her resilience, strength, and selflessness in the face of unimaginable challenges have inspired everyone fortunate enough to know her. She continues to lead with grace, compassion, and courage; always placing others before herself. The lessons I have learned from her leadership, compassion, and dedication continue to impact the way I serve students and families to this day. I am forever grateful for the years I had the opportunity to work with her, and she has left an indelible mark on me both professionally and personally.
I cannot think of anyone else who is more deserving of this recognition or better exemplifies what it means to be a LifeChanger. I love you, KB. You've got this!

Jena is someone who is very deserving of this award.
When I think of a true LifeChanger, I think of KB. Her legacy is not found in titles or accomplishments, but in the countless lives she has touched through her kindness, courage, and belief in others. She has been a trusted colleague, an advocate for students, a mentor to staff, and a source of inspiration to everyone fortunate enough to know her. What has always stood out to me is her heart. Every decision she makes begins with a simple question: "What's best for kids?" She has an incredible ability to see the potential in others, especially those who are struggling, and she never gives up on them. Thank you KB, it's been a blessing to work alongside you.
A very deserving lady with a heart of love!
Mrs KB is a champion for education. Her thoughtful heart and generous spirit is one that puts students, staff, and parents first before her own needs which is something I have watched over the years. This recognition is not normal for KB but it should be. Mrs KB is the kind of person who prefers the background versus the limelight and she would rather praise others than take credit. Make no mistake; she’s always advocating for those around her. For the reasons stated and so many more, I believe Mrs KB is very deserving of this nomination.
I would like to vote for KB for this award. She’s always been real with me and I like that. She’s pretty cool for a principle. I think she’s good at her job!
I met Jena in the early 2000s at Desert mesa Elementary School! She was a goddess warrior then.
25 years later, I know that she can overcome anything.
She has much more life to live! ????
Congrats on your nomination!!!!
I’m so sorry to hear what you’re going through. You’re in my prayers ????.
I feel that how we handle adversity can define us as people. KB is a shining example of positivity in this realm. No matter what obsticle may be put in her way, KB is unwavering in her service to the students and staff of our school. KB is a true role model and is deserving of Life Changer of the Year!
I had the privilege of working with Jena years ago in Europe, and she was exactly the kind of person the nomination describes: caring, quick-witted, thoughtful, and deeply attentive to the people around her.
She had a remarkable way of noticing the details that others might miss and quietly stepping in to help wherever she could. Her kindness was never performative; it was simply who she was. She made people feel seen, supported, and valued.
I was saddened to learn about the struggles she has faced, but I was not surprised in the slightest to read the words of this nomination. The qualities being recognized today are the same qualities I witnessed firsthand years ago. If anything, I can only imagine how those gifts have continued to shine through in her work in education.
Jena has always been a silent hero someone who makes a lasting difference not by seeking recognition, but by consistently showing up for others with compassion, intelligence, and grace. I am honored to add my voice in support of her.
KB is truly special. Her support, encouragement, and example helped me grow into a better teacher. She has a remarkable way of inspiring those around her, and I’m grateful for the positive impact she had on my teaching and professional growth
Ms KB has been apart of my son’s academic journey since Kinder. My son is autistic and medically complex. We tried two other schools for kinder and it was horrible. When we arrived at DVA, KB was that beacon of hope that saw beyond his trauma and anxiety and loved him for who he was. She has been an amazing advocate for him. It was no question when we heard she was an AP at Cibola that my son had to finish his academic journey with same warm, caring spirit that started it all. She gives the deepest most meaningful hugs and comfort to struggles parents. She knows what families go through and she steps up and stands behind them.
Growing up with Jena, watching her turn into the woman, mom, and wife she is today, not to mention the incredible work she does supporting, teaching, and nourishing her students, has been a true honor. The grace that you approach life with is inspiring, Jena. We love you tons and could not be more proud of you. ??
Mrs KB was my principal for both elementary and high school. She taught me and my siblings more than I can things than I can count. One saying that I will always remember is own your behaviors, change them, and move on. She taught us about grace. I will always have a special place in my heart for her. My sister and I truly love her. She is an asset to Cibola. I hope she gets better soon and please recognize how amazing she is. Thank you.
As I began to work under KB as a Reading Coach, it wasn’t long before I grew to admire and respect her. Eventually we formed a bond.
She inspired me to stand by my beliefs when others challenged me.
My admiration for KB is so strong that I was “inspired to become more like her.”
She represents inspiration, kindness, and compassion.
The world would be a better place with more people like her.
Ms KB is my favorite person at Cibola. She is kind, fair, and funny. Sometimes when she talks to us she tears up and that tells us her heart is about us. She’s not kidding when she tells us she loves us. She’s lets us know it’s ok to make mistakes and learn from them. I really just love her. She even tells us she makes mistakes and learns from them to.
I honestly didn’t know she was going through all this. She doesn’t show pain at work. She’s is just the best!
I’ve known Jena for over 10 years. She is a shining example of strength and resilience. Wishing her well as she bravely fights her battle with cancer.
Jena you deserve this. We Love you!
Joey & Andrew
Thank you for leading and supporting the students. Regardless of your own struggles, you’ve made it a priority to guide others and shape their future, and that says so much about the incredible person and leader you are.
You do amazing work for the students and staff. Thank you KB.
Love You!
I have been blessed to know and work alongside Jena for over 25 years.
We first worked together when she was new to teaching. She always put her students needs first. What impressed me most was how she always just expected her students to succeed. And they did. She set the bar high and her students rose to the occasion. I learned a lot from her about not underestimating my students. She was loved and respected by her students and their parents. She continues to be a very dear friend. I have watched her meet life's challenges and never let them get her down. Jena is certainly deserving of this recognition.
Mrs KB is definitely worthy of this amazing recognition of LifeChanger of the Year!!! She is an amazing Assistant Principal and has a very positive impact on her students and community.
