Music that Describes Cedric

Cedric Lenox was nominated anonymously.

Three words to describe Cedric Lenox are hope, leadership, and compassion. Mr. Lenox is more than an educator—he is a true LifeChanger. As Assistant Principal of Special Education at Harborcreek Youth Services School, he believes that every student deserves someone who sees their potential rather than their challenges. His personal philosophy, "You Are a Hope Dealer," is how he lives and leads every day.

Mr. Lenox made history at Harborcreek Youth Services by becoming the organization's first Assistant Principal and the first African American administrator to serve in this leadership role. Through his dedication, vision, and commitment to student success, he has helped shape a culture centered on hope, belonging, and opportunity. The students he serves are among the most vulnerable youth in the communities.

Harborcreek Youth Services is a residential treatment facility and special education school serving boys who have experienced significant trauma, emotional and behavioral challenges, mental health struggles, educational disruptions, and adverse life experiences. Many students have diagnoses such as Emotional Disturbance, Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, PTSD, anxiety, depression, and other behavioral health needs. These are students who often arrive believing they have failed or have been forgotten. Instead of focusing on what students have done wrong, Mr. Lenox focuses on who they can become. He consistently encourages students to dream big, work hard, take responsibility, and believe in themselves, even when they struggle to see their own worth.

He takes time to celebrate student milestones. Whether it is a graduation, a birthday, earning good grades, reaching a behavioral goal, or simply making positive choices, he ensures students know their accomplishments matter. For many students, these moments are the first time they have truly felt recognized, valued, and celebrated by an educational leader. Mr. Lenox has also strengthened relationships among families, school districts, residential staff, therapists, and educational teams to ensure students receive the support they need to succeed. His collaborative leadership has helped create a culture where students feel safe, respected, empowered, and hopeful about their futures.

What makes him a LifeChanger is his unwavering belief that every child has a purpose and a future. He teaches students that their past does not define them, their mistakes do not determine their destiny, and their circumstances do not limit their potential. He reminds them daily that they are significant, they matter, and they were born to accomplish great things. Through his leadership, mentorship, advocacy, and dedication, Mr. Lenox changes lives every day by giving students something many have never had before: hope.
