Music that Describes Scott

Scott Dion was nominated by a parent of a student, Erica Faginski-Stark.

"It is with great enthusiasm that I nominate Mr. Scott Dion for the LifeChanger of the Year award. Mr. Dion is a remarkable educator who demonstrates every day what it means to positively impact the lives of students through dedication, compassion, leadership, and an unwavering commitment to education," said Faginski-Stark.

As a mathematics and special education teacher at South Hadley High School, Mr. Dion has built strong relationships with students by creating a classroom atmosphere that is both engaging and supportive. Students consistently describe him as "helpful," "funny," and "goofy," while also recognizing that he knows when to be serious and holds high expectations. This balance allows students to feel comfortable, respected, and motivated to learn. Many students who once struggled with math gain confidence in his classroom because he makes learning enjoyable and approachable.

Mr. Dion's impact extends far beyond academics. He genuinely cares about the whole student and demonstrates this through his daily actions. He attends student sporting events and school activities outside of regular school hours, showing students that they are valued not only for their academic performance, but also for who they are as individuals. Students know they can count on him when they need support, encouragement, or simply someone to listen.

His commitment to young people is also evident throughout the South Hadley community. In addition to teaching, Mr. Dion coaches his own children's sports teams, modeling leadership, teamwork, and positive sportsmanship for countless students and families. He exemplifies the idea that great educators continue making a difference even after the school day ends. One story students especially enjoy sharing is that Mr. Dion has taught alongside his mother, a retired mathematics teacher and former department chair at South Hadley High School. This speaks volumes about his deep connection to education, family, and the South Hadley community. Teaching is clearly more than a profession for Mr. Dion. It is part of who he is.

"Mr. Dion demonstrates high moral and ethical standards through the kindness, patience, and respect he shows every student. He creates a nurturing environment where students feel safe taking academic risks, asking questions, and being themselves. His leadership, professionalism, and dedication make him an outstanding role model for students and colleagues alike. Most importantly, students know Mr. Dion truly cares about them. That feeling cannot be measured by test scores alone, yet it is often what changes students' lives the most. For all of these reasons, Mr. Scott Dion is highly deserving of recognition as a LifeChanger of the Year," said Faginski-Stark.
