Michael Groner was nominated by a parent of a student, Ariana O'Neill.

"I am honored to nominate Mr. Groner, a history teacher in the Quabbin Regional School District, for LifeChanger of the Year. His passion for teaching is unmistakable, and it is evident every day that he truly knows, understands, and values his students as individuals," said O'Neill.

During a time when education has shifted heavily toward technology, Mr. Groner has maintained a strong commitment to hands on, meaningful learning. He integrates technology thoughtfully without sacrificing the interactive, experiential elements that help students genuinely connect with history. His classroom remains a place where curiosity is encouraged, engagement is high, and learning feels alive. Although he enters grades in a timely and organized manner, he prioritizes student growth over simple numerical outcomes. He ensures students have ample time to complete assignments, and when a student receives a grade they are not satisfied with, he takes the time to review their work, offer guidance, and allow corrections. His focus is always on whether true learning and comprehension have occurred, not just whether an assignment is complete.

In a recent IEP meeting, it became clear that he builds therapeutic, supportive learning relationships with each student, meeting them where they are and helping them reach their full potential. His ability to connect with students of all needs and backgrounds is exceptional. He creates a fun, exciting, and welcoming classroom environment that makes students genuinely look forward to learning.

Beyond the classroom, Mr. Groner goes above and beyond for the school community. He coaches multiple sports teams, contributes to extracurricular activities, and even serves as the DJ for school dances and proms. His presence is felt throughout the district — not just as a teacher, but as a mentor, leader, and role model. He is also kind, responsive, and supportive to parents, maintaining open communication and demonstrating a deep commitment to student success.

"For his passion, dedication, creativity, and unwavering belief in his students, Mr. Groner is truly deserving of recognition as LifeChanger of the Year," said O'Neill.
