LifeChanger of the Year Nominee Profile

Michael MacConnell  was nominated by a colleague, Stacey Galata. 

"I am writing to enthusiastically nominate Mike McConnell, a dedicated life skills teacher at Riverview High School in Oakmont, for this recognition," said Galata. 

Mr. MacConnell embodies what it means to be both an educator and a mentor. As a foster parent to three teenagers, he brings a rare depth of empathy, patience, and real-world understanding into his classroom. His lived experiences shape the way he connects with students, creating an environment where they feel seen, supported, and capable of growth.

In his role as a 7–12 educator, Mr. MacConnell consistently demonstrates ingenuity in his teaching approach. His creative ideas and strong business acumen allow him to design learning experiences that are both practical and engaging. He finds ways to connect classroom lessons to real-life applications, giving students the tools they need to navigate the world beyond school with confidence.

Beyond his classroom, Mr. MacConnell has made a lasting impact across the entire district by fostering a culture of acceptance and inclusivity. He actively promotes an environment where every student feels valued, regardless of their background or circumstances. His influence reaches colleagues and students alike, helping to build a more compassionate and unified school community.
