Terry Parent was nominated by the principal, Stephanie Sosa.

"If I had to describe Terry Parent in three words, they would be: inspiring, innovative, and influential. Terry is a true LifeChanger whose impact reaches far beyond his classroom, shaping student experiences, strengthening school culture, and elevating our entire district," said Sosa.

As an eighth-grade English and co-taught English teacher, Mr. Parent demonstrates a proven ability to make a meaningful difference in his students' lives. He also leads the school's award-winning video production program, CMStv, where students produce daily announcements and develop real-world communication and media skills. His classes are highly engaging, and students hold him in the highest regard. They actively seek him out for guidance and support, a testament to the strong relationships he builds and the trust he fosters. Mr. Parent not only teaches content, but inspires confidence, creativity, and a sense of purpose in every student he serves.

"Mr. Parent is instrumental in cultivating a positive and inclusive school atmosphere. He is the very embodiment of our school culture: uplifting, collaborative, and student-centered. Whether he is leading a lunchtime volleyball club, supporting students during the school day, or empowering them to take ownership of projects like governing board presentations, Mr. Parent consistently creates opportunities for students to connect, lead, and thrive," said Sosa.

His leadership extends across the school and district. Mr. Parent is a vital member of the School Site Council, where he spearheaded a parent newsletter emphasizing the importance of state testing and strengthening home-school communication. His collaboration with colleagues is consistent and meaningful, and he is widely respected as a stellar educator and teammate. His contributions have had a measurable impact; his work within the ELA department contributed to a 16% increase in statewide assessment performance, playing a key role in the school earning the prestigious California Distinguished School Award.

Mr. Parent's excellence has been formally recognized, as he was named both Teacher of the Year and District Teacher of the Year. Yet, his influence continues to grow. He has supported elementary schools in launching video production programs that feed into the schools and has collaborated with the local high school to connect former students to advanced opportunities, creating a powerful pipeline of student success.

One example of Mr. Parent's impact is when he encouraged a student to pursue an ambitious idea: interviewing a well-known professional baseball player. Through his guidance and belief in the student's potential, that idea became a reality and was even shared with local media. This is who Mr. Parent is: someone who sees possibility in students and helps them achieve beyond what they thought was attainable.
