Caitlin Brooks was nominated by Elisa McInnes.
"It is with immense pride and enthusiasm that I nominate Caitlin Brooks, a second-grade teacher who serves as the definitive heartbeat of our school," said McInnes.
While many educators meet the standards of their profession, Mrs. Brooks exceeds them daily, pouring her energy into her students with an intentionality that transforms lives. She not only teaches, but inspires, empowers, and nurtures the next generation of thinkers. Mrs. Brooks understands that a child's success is built on a foundation of confidence and responsibility. By meticulously assigning classroom jobs, she ensures that every student feels included and essential to the community. This system teaches eight-year-olds that their contributions matter, fostering a sense of agency and pride that they carry with them long after they leave her classroom.
The hallmark of Mrs. Brooks' classroom is her ability to turn abstract concepts into vivid, unforgettable experiences. Her annual Second Grade Story Book Balloon Festival is a masterclass in creative pedagogy. By integrating the curriculum into a school-wide balloon parade, she allows students to showcase their literacy and creativity on a grand stage. Another concept she created is the "Classroom Hospital". To make a measuring unit applicable, she provided students with masks and medical tools, transforming them into "nurses" who measured dolls and stuffed animals in ounces, centimeters, and inches.
Mrs. Brooks frequently takes on ambitious projects, such as growing fodder for the school chickens, allowing students to witness the entire life cycle from seed to growth firsthand. What truly sets Mrs. Brooks apart is her refusal to settle for the bare minimum. Whether she is going "all out" for house parties to build school spirit or creating immersive environments for her lessons, her energy is infectious. She ensures that learning is never a chore, but a celebration. She is a teacher who sees the potential in every child and works tirelessly to ensure they have the tools and the excitement to reach it.
"Caitlin is more than an educator; she is a LifeChanger. Her classroom is a place where creativity is celebrated, responsibility is earned, and every student is seen. For her unwavering commitment to student success and her visionary approach to elementary education, I give her my highest possible recommendation for this honor," said McInnes.
