Music that Describes Monika
Monika Chamberlain was nominated by a colleague, Margarita Fateyev.
"I've been working with Mrs. Chamberlain for the past two years, and it has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I entered this role with no prior experience as an ESE Paraprofessional, so everything was new to me. Being in her classroom made the transition much smoother, and I've learned so much while working alongside her each day," said Fateyev.
Mrs. Chamberlain has a talent for making a real difference in her students' lives that you can see. Many of her students face different challenges, and she meets each of them where they are. She is patient, consistent, and understands that progress looks different for every child. Because of this, her students grow in ways that go beyond academics. They build confidence, trust, and a sense of stability that is vital for them.
"Her classroom is one of the most positive and welcoming environments I have ever experienced. Students feel safe there. They know they are cared for, and that impacts how they learn and interact. Even on tougher days, Mrs. Chamberlain maintains a calm, structured classroom, helping everyone feel more secure," said Fateyev.
"A moment that stood out to me was on a day when it was pouring rain. I had just come back from the bus loop, soaked, along with the student I work with. Before I could say anything, Mrs. Chamberlain noticed and immediately offered help. It was a touching moment because it made me feel supported in her classroom. Another memorable moment happened after an IEP meeting, when she was walking a student to his parents. He had recently joined her class. She told him she had met his parents and how wonderful they were, and that he was lucky to have such great parents. The student looked at her and gently touched her hand to signal his agreement. His mom saw that and became a little teary-eyed, because it showed how safe and comfortable her child felt with Mrs. Chamberlain. It was a simple moment, but it really stayed with me," said Fateyev.
Mrs. Chamberlain naturally takes on a leadership role without needing recognition. She is always aware of her surroundings and steps in when something needs attention. Recently, when another teacher went on leave, and students had to be split into different classrooms, she immediately took action. She welcomed extra students into her room, created a schedule, and worked hard to help them feel included and supported.
What could have been a stressful situation became smooth and manageable due to her efforts. From a professional viewpoint, Mrs. Chamberlain is consistent, dependable, and clearly skilled in her role. She handles challenges with patience and remains steady in overwhelming situations. That kind of reliability makes a significant difference in a special education setting.
"On a personal level, Mrs. Chamberlain also had a great impact on me. There have been times I felt overwhelmed, especially as someone new in this field, and she always notices. She steps in and helps calmly and reassuringly, never making me feel like I'm doing something wrong. Instead, she supports me and helps me grow. Because of her, I feel more confident and capable in my role. She creates a nurturing atmosphere not just for her students but for everyone around her. She leads with kindness, treats people with respect, and carries herself with strong integrity in all she does. Mrs. Chamberlain is not just a fantastic teacher; she is someone who truly makes a lasting difference in the lives of her students and the people she works with. I feel lucky to work alongside her and witness that impact every day," said Fateyev.
