Music that Describes Monika

Monika Chamberlain was nominated by a colleague, Margarita Fateyev.

"I've been working with Mrs. Chamberlain for the past two years, and it has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I entered this role with no prior experience as an ESE Paraprofessional, so everything was new to me. Being in her classroom made the transition much smoother, and I've learned so much while working alongside her each day," said Fateyev.

Mrs. Chamberlain has a talent for making a real difference in her students' lives that you can see. Many of her students face different challenges, and she meets each of them where they are. She is patient, consistent, and understands that progress looks different for every child. Because of this, her students grow in ways that go beyond academics. They build confidence, trust, and a sense of stability that is vital for them.

"Her classroom is one of the most positive and welcoming environments I have ever experienced. Students feel safe there. They know they are cared for, and that impacts how they learn and interact. Even on tougher days, Mrs. Chamberlain maintains a calm, structured classroom, helping everyone feel more secure," said Fateyev.

"A moment that stood out to me was on a day when it was pouring rain. I had just come back from the bus loop, soaked, along with the student I work with. Before I could say anything, Mrs. Chamberlain noticed and immediately offered help. It was a touching moment because it made me feel supported in her classroom. Another memorable moment happened after an IEP meeting, when she was walking a student to his parents. He had recently joined her class. She told him she had met his parents and how wonderful they were, and that he was lucky to have such great parents. The student looked at her and gently touched her hand to signal his agreement. His mom saw that and became a little teary-eyed, because it showed how safe and comfortable her child felt with Mrs. Chamberlain. It was a simple moment, but it really stayed with me," said Fateyev.

Mrs. Chamberlain naturally takes on a leadership role without needing recognition. She is always aware of her surroundings and steps in when something needs attention. Recently, when another teacher went on leave, and students had to be split into different classrooms, she immediately took action. She welcomed extra students into her room, created a schedule, and worked hard to help them feel included and supported.

What could have been a stressful situation became smooth and manageable due to her efforts. From a professional viewpoint, Mrs. Chamberlain is consistent, dependable, and clearly skilled in her role. She handles challenges with patience and remains steady in overwhelming situations. That kind of reliability makes a significant difference in a special education setting.

"On a personal level, Mrs. Chamberlain also had a great impact on me. There have been times I felt overwhelmed, especially as someone new in this field, and she always notices. She steps in and helps calmly and reassuringly, never making me feel like I'm doing something wrong. Instead, she supports me and helps me grow. Because of her, I feel more confident and capable in my role. She creates a nurturing atmosphere not just for her students but for everyone around her. She leads with kindness, treats people with respect, and carries herself with strong integrity in all she does. Mrs. Chamberlain is not just a fantastic teacher; she is someone who truly makes a lasting difference in the lives of her students and the people she works with. I feel lucky to work alongside her and witness that impact every day," said Fateyev.

Monika has found her true calling as a teacher. I have worked with her for several years, and have watched her endless dedication and compassion to her students . It is so hard to put into words the amount of love and kindness she puts forth into her classroom . I’ve seen her give countless hugs , wipe away tears , and teach her students lifelong lessons . My favorite memories will always be coming into her classroom for morning breakfasts with the kids , and seeing their faces light up when she is in there . She is a life changer , not only to her students , but to the people around her .

Monika is an amazing teacher. What makes her special is not only her knowledge, but also the way she truly cares about her students and her dedication to them and to her work. She supports each and every child in her classroom. She is a wonderful and compassionate person. I know because I am her mom and I could not be prouder of her.

Monika is such a compassionate woman. No matter who she is dealing with she only finds the good in them. Always speaking of her students and colleagues with such compassion. She is a wonderful wife and mother to her 3 children. I watched her stand by her husband who served in the military and could not be prouder! She always put her family first and made sure that they were always safe. Wife, mother, teacher, and niece to me - She is truly one of a kind.

Monika Chamberlain is one of the most motivating, patient, and nurturing teachers I have ever met. During the 2024–2025 school year, I had the opportunity to substitute in her special needs classroom for a day, and what I witnessed was incredible. She guided her students through the lesson with grace, patience, and passion. Even when some students interrupted her, she remained calm and assertive, continuing the lesson while still showing empathy and understanding toward those students. It only took that one lesson for me to know that I wanted to work with her. Fortunately, my wish came true. I have now been working in her classroom for the past year, and it has been just as fun and awe-inspiring as that very first day I subbed there. Through her leadership and example, she has shown me how teachers can truly change lives for the better.

Monika has left a positive, impactful mark in every position she has held in every school. Working with Monika 12 years ago, she still has the same passion, enthusiasm and care for every student she meets. I was immediately inspired by her methods of engagement and the importance of being able to find a connection with every student. She was greatly missed when she and her family had to move. But her spirit stayed with all of us that remained in her past school.

Monika has been my teacher, my mother and my friend and in each role she has had a great effect on shaping who I am today. Watching the influence she's had on so many others has been an amazing experience. The patience and kindness she takes with each person meeting them on their level to help teach and guide is truly inspiring. I couldn't think of anyone more deserving.

As Monika’s husband I am obviously biased in my view. I will share that she has been with me for over 23 years and of that 23 years she followed me for 20 years in the military. There wasn’t one time that she did not support me and most importantly our family. She made life long friends everywhere we went all across the world. I have never heard one bad comment about her which is no surprise. She has blessed me with her love and has so much to offer to everyone around her. I cherish every day with her just like her students and coworkers do. Congrats to this absolute legend of a woman.

Monika is the most patient, caring, loving and understanding Teacher I’ve ever worked with. We’ve worked together for the last 5 years and I’m amazed by her love of our children on a daily basis. She truly is the best.

Monika is such an amazing teacher. She goes above and beyond for her students in so many ways. Many of the students in her class are nonverbal and communicate through devices. I love observing her eye gaze group where she is teaching her students how to communicate on their device by using their eyes. Giving a student a voice is life changing for these students and their families.
