"Mr. Gonzalez has dedicated over 30 years to James A. Garfield Senior High School and the community of East Los Angeles. He has built an award-winning mariachi program and has motivated many of his students to believe in themselves and attend college. He finds opportunities for his students to gain a college experience while in high school and has helped many students find scholarships so that they can make going to college affordable," said Huerta.
