"Ms. Mar, or 'mom' as many students refer to her, is one of the most caring people to ever step foot at James A. Garfield Senior High School. She has made one of the strongest impacts on the students and the community of East Los Angeles. Aside from being an excellent teacher who inspires her students to love science, she also volunteers many hours of her time caring for the environment. She is the faculty sponsor of the CHANCE club, the school's environmental awareness club. Ms. Mar teaches her students how to think beyond themselves and to care about greater things like our environment and others who are less fortunate. She leads an annual toy drive that benefits those who may not have anything to unwrap otherwise. Her smile is contagious, and so is her kindness," said Gonzalez.
