Music that Describes Chet
Chet Stewart was nominated by a colleague, Linda Wood.
Mr. Stewart retired from being a principal in Alabama to teach Math at Troup County High School (THS) in Georgia. He took on the position of Principal at THS after one year, and the difference he made is remarkable. Mr. Stewart has focused on student discipline and supporting teachers' abilities to teach the students.
Before he became a principal, cell phones in the classroom were an issue. Today, teachers readily teach without distraction. Additionally, he is a supporter of all students, from arts to sports. Mr. Stewart attends events from each club, sport, and program. He does not simply choose what he likes; he builds a rapport with all the students and encourages teachers to do the same.
"Mr. Stewart truly leads by example. Scores have gone up in our school, but the most positive outcomes have been increased school pride, student learning, and a focus on being a productive member of society," said Wood.
