Cameron Burton was nominated by the principal, Keith Rangel.
For 39 years, Ms. Burton has poured her heart into Ripon High School (RHS). She has taught History, English, and even stepped in to teach Spanish. She coached softball and led the team on a deep run into the Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs. She has taught multiple AP (Advanced Placement) courses and even created her own class, Futuristic Fiction and Film, which has become a popular alternative to traditional college-prep English due to her engaging lessons and ability to connect literature to the world students live in today.
Ms. Burton's influence extends far beyond the classroom. She helped lead and supported Girls League for many years, an all-girls service organization that promotes sisterhood, philanthropy, and healthy relationships. She served as coronation adviser for more than 15 years, working closely with the leadership program to preserve and enhance one of RHS's most cherished traditions. She has also dedicated countless hours to college essay workshops, helping seniors refine their writing with thoughtful, individualized feedback that keeps students returning year after year. It's no surprise she was chosen as Homecoming Grand Marshal, an honor selected by student leaders who recognize her genuine impact.
Ms. Burton is also known for her unwavering belief in every student. She offers a clean slate each day and treats every student with respect and fairness. Her passion for learning is constant, and she inspires students to give their best because she consistently gives hers. Her service extends to numerous committees, including calendar committees, negotiations teams, and the School Site Council. She has also been a strong supporter of campus programs as both a booster and a mentor to many new educators. A product of Ripon Schools herself, she returned home to Montana in 1988 after college, was hired by former Superintendent Joe O'Leary, and has been shaping RHS ever since.
"Her legacy is one of dedication, care, and lifelong commitment to students. Cam Burton is, without question, a true LifeChanger," said Rangel.
