Music that Describes Chantal

Chantal Osborne was nominated by her colleague, Dr. Mary Joan Connors.

As the consummate LifeChanger, Ms. Osborne oversees a multicultural and multi-ethnic population of students in the North and South Beach areas of Miami-Dade County. The local newspaper refers to this area as part of the most complex county in the United States. MBA accommodates a diverse population, enrolling students from around the world who speak a host of different languages. Day and evening classes take place at three elementary schools and one senior high school.

Inherent in Ms. Osborne's daily responsibilities is a sensitivity to the students who enroll in the main and satellite centers for the rapid acquisition of English. As a poly-lingual (English, Spanish, French, Haitian-Creole, and Portuguese) principal with familial ties to numerous cultures, Ms. Osborne uses her skills daily to change the lives of hundreds of newly-arrived immigrant learners. She takes professional responsibility for helping students to bridge language and cultural barriers.

Osborne's everyday mission reaches beyond adult learners. She oversees the only after-school childcare programs run by adult centers. On any given day, she can be seen reading to preschool learners and inspiring them to become lifelong readers. A 24-year veteran of the Miami-Dade County Public Schools district, Ms. Osborne has moved, with a quiet confidence, from classroom teacher to district and school administrator. Her genuine belief in the potential of each learner serves as a catalyst for the students, teachers, and staff. She is a true LifeChanger whose expectations are firm, but fair. These are augmented by her charismatic presence, sense of humor, and consistent support for students and employees alike.

It is my distinct pleasure to add to the nomination of Ms. Chantal Osborne for the prestigious award, Life Changer of the year. Ms. Osborne certainly embodies the qualities that define this award. She is an exemplary leader, impacts student lives, and is a credit to the Miami-Dade County Public School System. Ms. Osborne is a first year principal. However, her performance is more like that of a seasoned veteran. I have been working with her in the capacity as a mentor, and I have been witness to a principal who has literally transformed a wonderful school into a magnificent one. She works tirelessly and always is in a learning mode. Every action she takes is to benefit the students she is responsible for. A willing learner, Ms. Osborne has no ego. She makes sure her staff is recognized and that they have everything they need to be successful. In my former life I was a principal and administrative director, supervising many, many principals. I am here to state, unequivocally, she is on a par with the best of them. One can only imagine what she will be doing once she finishes her first year. The sky is the limit. I hope Ms. Osborne is named recipient of this award. It would be further recognition for someone who does this special work because of the love of the profession. Thank you for considering my nomination on her behalf. Sincerely, Robert Kalinsky, Mentor, Miami-Dade County Public Schools

Transitioning from a classroom teacher to a literacy coach was a difficult adjustment for me. As the school’s literacy coach, I became part of the school’s Leadership Team and had no idea what this all entailed. Luckily, I had Mrs. Osborne to guide me along the way. When I was having a horrible day planning with the teachers, she was there to guide me on how to make the next common planning session more impactful. Whenever I was conflicted and didn’t know which path to choose, I always knew I could rely on Mrs. Osborne to provide me insight. If it wasn’t for Mrs. Osborne, I wouldn’t be in my profession without her guidance.

The greatest quality one possesses is that they never set out to be a "LifeChanger", they simply live IT everyday by being authentic to themselves. In the pursuit of that greatness life provide opportunities to help shift, touch, and inspire people from all walks of life. More than just seeking avenues for change, they create opportunities to push the boundaries and limitations of what is truly "possible" By living with that purpose of serving others from a place of constant contribution, the world truly opens up allowing that individual to spread their love and light to everyone they touch. That individual is Ms. Chantal Osborne. As a proud fellow colleague, it is not only without reservation or hesitation, but with pride that I support Ms. Osborne for the LifeChanger of the Year Award.

As the afterschool program manager, I am honored and proud to endorse the nomination of Ms. Chantal Osborne. Her personal and professional interest in the nurturing and education of young children has changed the culture of the Miami Beach Adult & Community Education Center (MAC). Although her main position is as an adult school administrator, Ms. Osborne has never loses sight of the young participants in afterschool care. She knows most of the youngsters by name and she takes time every day to check on their well being. As an experienced and dedicated principal, Ms. Osborne reminds her faculty and staff often that excellence in school begins with the care of those just starting out on their educational journeys.
