Mrs. Owallah has been awarded Distinguished Teacher status in the Dallas Independent School District through the Distinguished Teacher Review Process. During this process, Dallas ISD recognizes teachers who demonstrate leadership, pursue learning opportunities, contribute to the profession of education, and promote academic excellence. Distinguished teachers earn an effectiveness level of Proficient or higher, and Mrs. Owallah has earned “Proficient II.” She achieved high scores in teacher performance and student achievement. She serves her campus as Special Education Lead Person.
Mrs. Owallah's love and passion are to serve students with special needs. She has done this consistently for several years, even though she is certified to teach in other areas of education. She has proven that all children can learn, regardless of their cognitive, and intellectual abilities. Mrs. Owallah knows the importance of structure, thereby, providing her class with a physical and academic structure that is favorable to learning. Over the years, many of her students have progressed to the General Education setting and are reaching unimaginable educational goals. In addition to the special care she gives each student, she is empathetic towards parents and seeks to maintain open communication, mutual respect, and a mutual interest in helping each student reach their highest potential. She believes, as our 31st U.S. President, Herbert Hoover did, "Children are our most valuable natural resource."
In conclusion, her adherence to high moral and ethical standards are impeccable. Many in the Dallas learning community seek sound advice from her on a daily basis. Her core for success as an educator of a special needs population is made up of acceptance, patience, creativity, organization, and a calming nature.
Lydia has a heart of gold, a heart that is drawn to service, a heart for her students. She is passionate about her work, and approaches it with all of her being. Her Spirit is wonderful to be around. She is amazing and someone I will always respect and admire.
Great teachers have passion, compassion and joy that children instinctively are drawn to. Lydia has all those qualities as well as patience. Patience with her students and patience with new teachers like me to make us believe that we can positively change and enhance children's lives.
Lydia is a wonderful person! She always has a smile on her face and is very positive! Her passion for teaching is exceptional. Congratulations, you deserve it!

I worked with Lydia when she was working with preschoolers. I found her to be a very loving and kind person who truly cared for the children. She, herself, was always desiring to learn more which would enable her to better perform in the classroom. She is very respectful of others and always ready to help in any situation.
She is very deserving of this honor!

Mrs. Owallah definitely deserves Life Changer of the Year. I had the privilege of working with her in her classroom as well as seeing her hard work in serving children with special needs overseas. She is the most respectful, loving, and talented teacher I have worked with, toward her students but also toward her co-workers. She poors her heart into serving children with special needs, in the classroom and elsewhere. She takes all parts of her job seriously and makes personal sacrifices to go the extra mile for her students. She no doubt deserves this award!
Children can tell very early on which teacher cares and which do not. How can they tell? They can tell from the size of the heart that is shown them on a daily basis. Mrs. Owallah has one huge empathetic heart, that shows everyday, as many times as her heart beats. She excels them all! Thank you Mrs. Owallah for being an outstanding person first, which makes an outstanding teacher.

PEDAGOGY today is not an easy thing. There’s no measurement for the joy that she brings. She touches lives from here to overseas. Serving students with special needs. Teaching families through their seed. Showing how great their child could be. More of her is who we need. A little benevolence in the hands of many, fulfills dreams. Thank you, indeed.
Lydia's passion for helping special needs children goes beyond what she does at school. She is the founder of a non-profit organization known as the Ageno Community. The Ageno Community has a facility in Kenya that provides a day program for kids with functional disabilities for learning, growth and attainment of life skills. Lydia works tirelessly to raise funds and support the institution. She and her team make annual trips to Kenya to continuously train and support the community in all manner of ways.
Lydia is very personable. She is full of love and warmth especially for the disadvantaged. Her persona belie the fact that she is a mover and a shaker. She is an outstanding leader and educator. She leads by example. A true hero.
I have had the privilege of working with Lydia twice. She is an inspiration. Her willingness to work hard and her belief in making a difference makes her and exceptional teacher. She enables and supports those that need it the most! She deserves this award.
She has passion to support kids with special needs. Everything she does, she gives it 100% attention. She went out of her way to start a non profit organization that helps kids with mental illnesses in a country where they are shunned and looked down upon. With years of
experience, she deserves the ‘Life Changer of the Year’ award!!

Lydia's passion for children in special education is a calling! She understands her work and everything she does in this work is deeply motivated. In her soare time, she helps children with special needs in Africa, through her charity organization.
Mrs. Owallah is an outstanding educator who is loving, kind, compassionate, thoughtful, and shows much empathy. Her heart for students with special needs is larger than Texas. And as the saying go, "Don't Mess With Texas", lool.

Congratulations to Ms. Owallah!! Ms. Owallah is an incredibly passionate educator! She advocates for all students but especially for our Special Education students. She believes in all students' ability to learn and become independent. She is very loving and patient. Ms. Owallah works year round helping students with her non profit in Kenia. She goes back every summer to her little school in Kenia to serve students with Autism, Ms. Owallah has a growth mindset, she seeks constantly new strategies to implement in her classroom. We are very proud of her and more than anything grateful of her work and dedication! She is a life changer of all her students in her class!
