Kindra Anderson was nominated by her mother, Shannon Anderson.
Ms. Anderson is an amazing, caring and selfless teacher to 30 kindergarten students. This is only her second full year teaching since graduating college, and she has “taken the bull by the horns." She is already leading the kindergarten team as their fearless lead teacher, and is always fighting for her team to get as many resources as possible. Ms. Anderson has embraced the Watts community and spends most days volunteering in the after school program on her campus.
Last year, Ms. Anderson volunteered and spent three days camping with the fourth graders at 99th Street. The relationships she has forged with these students have been very valuable. These students know that they have an adult on campus they can trust. One of Ms. Anderson's greatest assets is her ability to gain the respect of parents, grandparents or caregivers. This year, her students have a wonderful "kinder granny" that volunteers every day serving them their free breakfast. In a community like Watts, CA, parent involvement is rare, but every year, Ms. Anderson seems to reach one or two parents who just fit in with her style. They seem to share her compassion and desire to serve.
It's Ms. Anderson's journey to teaching, however, that's most inspiring. As a young student herself, she was diagnosed with a visual processing disorder, making it really hard to learn to read. After having a wonderful third grade teacher, she set out to become an elementary teacher. Thanks to the mentors, professors and support staff at her University, she not only succeeded but graduated with honors!
"Honestly, I could write an entire essay on Kindra overcoming her disabilty, but I will save that for another day," said Shannon. "Kindra is a true champion for her students and believes with all her heart they will become successful members of our society. If she had a motto, it would be, 'I teach because I believe that all students, rich or poor, no matter your skin color or nationality are entitled to a quality education, taught by loving, compassionate qualified teachers.'"

Ms. Anderson is ever so committed to her students and the teaching profession. She always has a beautiful smile on her face and you can tell she truly loves her students and her job! Her passion is very inspiring and she is well deserving of this prestigious award! She has my vote!
Ms. Anderson is an amazing teacher and leader. I am a new kindergarten teacher this year, and I can say firsthand that Ms. Anderson really believes in the work that she does. She cares deeply about helping her fellow kindergarten teachers bring great resources to our students. She is genuinely kind to her students and works hard to ensure that their days in kindergarten are engaging and challenging. She has created a class garden inside her classroom, she incorporates daily differentiated learning activities, and she teaches with a restorative justice lens. She is a true asset to our school. She is the kind of teacher you turn to if you need support or ideas. I am so glad to be able to work with her and learn from her every day.
Leading by actions rather than word is a foundation of a true leader. Ms.Anderson has formed strong bonds with her students within her classroom and outside. She truly cares about her students and prepares herself for the challenges education can present. She communicates, understands her subject matters, and applies passion to understanding.

In just two years, Ms. Anderson has had a resounding impact at 99th St. Elementary. She is a hard-working, extremely passionate, innovative teacher who believes that all students can achieve. She readily and willingly collaborates with others, builds a unified partnership with families and the community, and works tirelessly to ensure that students get nothing short of the very best. Ms. Anderson accomplishes tasks with initiative, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude. She is a true professional and most definitely a life changer!
Ms. Anderson is one of the best teachers my son has had. He is so excited to go to school everyday and learn. He comes home everyday and lets me know everything he did and how much fun he had. I am happy to have Ms. Anderson as my sons teacher and a staff at his school. We truly appreciate you and all your dedication to the classroom. We love you!!

Ms. Anderson has been an amazing teacher to my daughters. They are learning so much from her and they absolutely love having her as their teacher
They are so many thing to say about miss Anderson ... she is one of the best teachers my son has have she has bring the best on him she has had the time and pasión to teach every singl one of her students my son is prof of her passion he has improve so much on every singl aspect of him we should have more Teachers like her ????
I have watched Kindra throughout the years and she has always had a heart for children. When she was just a teenager she volunteered in her church as a volunteer in the summer program for children. Kindra spent a great deal of her time volunteering with a youth theater program Haven Academy Of The Arts.
When Kindra was 21 and 23 she spent part of her summer in Haiti volunteering in a program called Maranatha Childerns Ministry. Maranatha helps to educate children that can not afford to pay for an education.
When Kindra started her journey in teaching she wanted to work in a community that was low income, she wanted to make a difference in the lives of the children and their families. Kindra spends a lot of her time at home planning ways to make learning fun for these children. I can not begin to tell you how many weekends I have gone with Kindra shopping, where she buys supplies for her classroom.
Kindra watches each student to see what it will take to make them succeed. In my opinion she goes above and beyond in all aspects.
Ms.Anderson is great teacher my son was having trouble and she when above and beyond to fix them.Thanks to her my son is really great in math and he is only in kinder.
Miss Anderson goes above and beyond her call of duty as a teacher. She started her career at 99th Street 2.5 years ago and she has been donating her time to volunteer at Woodcraft Rangers (after school program) ever since. Miss Anderson steps in where ever she is needed. She has earned the respect of all the students in the program and it is evident by how many good mornings she gets. She can't even walk across the playground without being stopped by a students.Miss Anderson remains positive at all times and is kind to everyone. She is a hard worker and believes all students can learn and reach their full potential. She lights up when talking about the progress her students have made and you can just tell overall she loves each and every child that comes in to her class.
Ms. Anderson changed my son’s perspective of what a real classroom can be. He didn’t have the greatest experience in pre-kinder. But Ms. Anderson went above and beyond to have open communication with us about our child. She is always there to let us know what can he improve on and what he’s done great on.
Ms.Anderson is probably the most deserving teacher out there for the Lifechanger of the year award.

I have worked closely with Kindra Anderson to support students in her class with special needs. She is patient and tries different strategies to reach every student. When I observe her classroom, I see children who are engaged and excited about learning. They tell me in our small group sessions how much they love Ms Anderson, then launch into stories about the projects they are working on, the books they are reading, and the sounds they know. These are all signs of an amazing teacher. I am honored to work with her and surprised to hear she has only been teaching for two years!

My son loves his kindergarten teacher Ms. Anderson! He often shares at home the amazing class discussions and activities that take place in their classroom. I am blessed that he has such a dedicated and wonderful teacher that reinforces the important values that we instill at home, such as empathy, kindness, and respect. His favorite thing to do in his class right now is "counting and writing numbers on the white board" and "helping his friends on the computer". Ask him again next week, and it will probably change AGAIN! That is how I know he is happy and enjoys learning in her class......he has so many favorites, it's hard to just pick one! Thank you Ms. Anderson for helping to make Daniel's school year a positive and memorable one. Your patience and commitment to all of your students is admired and greatly appreciated.
You can see the love that Miss Anderson shows for our children. Dedicating hours trying to find different ways to work with parents and their children. I've seen Kindra Anderson blossom from an amazing kid to an exceptional young lady. I've taught young children for 25 years and Kindra has everything it takes to be the teacher that kids, parents and administrators dream of having. Her passion and dedication are going to make a difference in many live.
Kinda is the teacher who years from now, former students will remember as, that teacher who had a significant impact on their life. The teacher who not only gets the academics done, but engages with her students with compassion. Kindra teaches in a tough neighborhood in LA. No matter all that her students face outside the school, when they arrive to Kindra’s class, they have arrived to a safe place, where they can learn and thrive. How do I know these things? Because whenever I talk with Kindra about her classroom, she lights up. The passion and the compassion are so clear.
I grew up with Kindra's parents and their love for God, family, friends, and community has continued on with their children. Knowing the Anderson family, means knowing Kindra was brought up with respect, love, and compassion for others. I truly believe Kindra was chosen to be a teacher and with that, I know that no child will ever be left behind.

I haven’t known Kindra long, but she has had a definite impact on my life here in Ohio. It is so obvious how she cares for each one of her students deeply in the way she talks about them. I feel lucky to know her and her students are blessed to have her!
