Ron Rendel was nominated by his spouse, Cynthia Rendel.

Mr. Rendel was born to be a teacher. Sadly, his teaching days will come to an end after this school year, as he is retiring.  Mr. Rendel has always been "the" favorite teacher of all of his students.  One time, he was concerned about getting a new principal. It turns out she had already heard about Mr. Rendel from students she worked with during summer school, and they all raved about him.  When he attends high school sporting events, he gets mobbed by all his former students.

He has been a leader by being a PLC team leader and a BETA Union leader. His performance in the classroom is exemplary as evidenced by having the top scores on benchmark tests in the entire district several times. Mr. Rendel is also the Compton Jr. High basketball coach and has led and nurtured his young basketball players for about 10 years. He is responsible for many players turning their grades and behavior around so they can be on the team.  He's also an assistant basketball coach for East High School, working with both freshmen and JV squads.

Mr. Rendel was also nominated by his colleagues to be Teacher of the Year for BCSD several years ago. He has had an outstanding career. He is a fantastic teacher and mentor to his students.

A recent Compton newsletter had this to say about him next to a picture of when he dressed like a Jedi Master: Jedi Master or English/History Teacher? Or maybe both? Meet Mr. Rendel...the one person we'd most like to have with us in the Zombie Apocalypse.  Mr. Rendel is motivated daily with his personal motto, "No student will fail!"  He ensures they get daily feedback to ensure their success.  In addition to this, he builds great relationships with students and is a fantastic basketball coach!  We'll sure miss him next year.  So glad he's a part of our team.

His profile picture was taken during a beard growing competition designed to encourage students to focus on grades.  The period with the best grades got to color his beard any color they wished!
