Jackie Schwertz was nominated by Dederick Darby, a member of the community.
"I spend a good amount of time working in the front office area, checking into the school, etc. The more time I spend in this school, the more strongly I feel that Ms. Schwertz is a LifeChanger," said Darby. "Ms. Schwertz has a very contagious smile and warm greeting every time somebody walks into the office. She's very friendly and inviting, and I've never seen her have a bad day."
Ms. Schwertz is a great mentor to the students. She works directly with the front office aides, who are students in the school, and she spends all of her free time teaching them, working with them, and having fun conversations with them. They all love her, and you can tell how much they enjoy being around her.
Ms. Schwertz constantly praises students for their efforts, whether it's the aides she's working with or students coming through the office in passing. She always has an encouraging word and is nurturing toward the students.
Ms. Schwertz has great relationships with everyone. She chats with her office administrators and is often seen having a laugh with various teachers in the building.
"Jackie is just truly a delightful person. The culture at McAdams is fantastic in general and one of the best schools I've had the pleasure to work with, and I believe it starts when one walks through the office doors and sees Jackie Schwertz," said Darby.
Mrs. Schwertz goes beyond her duties and always treats everybody with respect and is always nice to everybody she comes across.
Jackie is the true definition of a life changer. She represents our campus well.
I have known Jackie for a very long time. She was a student of mine right here at McAdams junior High, Jackie has always been a very happy and helpful person. She is a joy to be around and of course is deseringof this Life Changer of the Year Award.

Jackie is amazing. She is awesome when our 18+ students come into the office. She even has a special handshake with one of our students. She is wonderful and deserves it all. We love yoU!!!

This woman goes above and beyond for every child she encounters each and every day. She is continuously active in and around her community and finds big and little ways to make an impact whenever possible. From organizing donations for prom dresses so our lower income children can feel beautiful on their special day, to buying jackets with her own money for kids who are cold, and even sharing her lunch with the children who forget theirs that day, her heart is always with the kids. I'm fortunate to see her in action in her role at our school and I'm always impressed that she always remembers the children and their families by name. She presents herself as another option for the kids to turn to in their times of need forming meaningful, memorable, and lasting relationships.
My office is directly behind Jackie's receptionist area, so I get to hear her interact with students, parents and staff. She is always cheerful and energetic with everyone. Jackie has a great spirit and is always courteous, helpful and cheerful. She teaches her office aides how to be professional and teaches them life skills. Jackie loves kids and it shows in her interaction with them. Jackie goes above and beyond when it comes to helping people. McAdams Jr. High School is lucky to have her.

I was a teaher at McAdams when Jackie was a student. She was a delight then and I can only imagine what she is like today! She seems to make such a difference in the climate of McAdams and that is so important to everyone who enters that school!
Jackie has such a special bond with the kids at McAdams. She is their confidant, a hug when needed, and the biggest cheerleader. She will go out of her way to make their day special even going to sporting events after school. We are so blessed to have her in our district supporting all of our children! I cant think of a more deserving recipient. Super proud of you Jack, thank you for taking such great care of our babies!
Mrs. Schwertz is always a welcoming face to the MJH office. Both of my girls have thought very highly of her. She is giving, helpful, and a wonderful role model for the kids!

What I love most about what Jackie does with our students is that she’s teaching them life skills. Everyone is leaving to communicate properly on the phone when answering it and speaking to an adult. Her title may be receptionist but she is for sure a teacher as well. Way to go “Mrs. Shorts” our kids are becoming better humans because you’re part of their world. GATA Gators
Mrs. Schwertz is a favorite among “her kids”, as she calls them, and treats them. She even ate a chili covered cricket in Spanish class, just because they asked her to.

Jackie is the perfect receptionist. When I go to a campus, I expect to be greeted cordially, and she never fails to do this. Everyone that walks through that door is greeted the same way. Her smile and positive attitude encourages students and parents alike to come into her environment at any time. I love that. Most offices are sterile and the receptionist business like but not friendly. Jackie not only greets you, but processes your concerns and gets you on your way as fast as possible. You do not have to wait. If you do wait for any reason, she has a conversation with you to make you feel right at home. This employee is certainly worth recognizing in her job status and the community.
I am so proud of Jackie! I'm not surprised at all that she is nominated. She is so sweet. She truly cares for all the students, staff, and the whole Dickinson ISD. She has such a big heart. She is always there for everyone and never let's anyone feel left out. She is the smiling warm face you can come to and the caring ears that will listen to you. Everyone loves her! I know several students from McAdams. They tell me how great Mrs. Schwertz is. That means a lot to me because I am raising my granddaughter in this same community. From the day I met Jackie I pretty much loved her. She is stand up kinda woman who is down to earth, honest, trust worthy, funny, smart, beautiful inside and out, I honestly could just go on. Jackie kinda person that makes you have a good day just seeing her smile. When she got this “job” I couldn’t think of a more fitting place for her. Obviously it’s not about the money, she loves being there, she loves making a difference. She loves her home town, always has. Everyone she meets, she greets with a huge positive smile. If she is having a bad day, you wouldn’t know it. She cares about the kids at her school so much and gives back so much mire. From seeing. A member of the community in need and rallying help to get her a tire to Making sure students have shoes and needed clothing, she just does because it needs to happen. Jackie is a positive co-worked, an up lifter—- she is encouraging and her smile is contagious. The world needs more Jackie’s, although there can only be one Jackie in this world.

Jackie and I are life-long friends and classmates. I have had the honor of watching her in many different aspects of her life. Not only as a wife, mother, and friend, but also through various job opportunities and travels she's experienced. Jackie has many amazing qualities, but whatever it is she's going through in life, good or bad, she gives it her all. She loves with all her heart, she truly cares and wants everyone to know they are not alone. She is a listener, a helper, and has the most giving heart. There have been times she has reached out to get donations of shoes for students who were going without. She's one of the hardest workers I have ever known. She researches, she hustles to get things done, and even if the situation is stressful, you'd never know it from her because she keeps a positive outlook and a smile on her face until ahe accomplishes whatever it was she set out to do. Since starting her job in DISD, students are constantly writing her thank you notes for her encouraging words, hugs, or just making them feel loved and heard in general. The number of lives she's changed just by "being Jackie" is probably far more than even she knows. Love you, my friend! Keep being you, and making this World a better one. I couldn't be prouder to call you one of my bestest!
I’ve known Jackie for over 2 decades, and this nomination comes to no surprise. When around her, her love for her students and her community is overwhelming. She is truly in education for the right reasons, and is making a significant impact on Dickinson’s future leaders.

Jackie Schwertz demonstrates her leadership abilities by being one of the leaders of our neighborhood watch site. She’s upbeat, positive and has a winning smile! She’s involved in her own children’s lives but also the MJHS students daily lives as well. Definitely a positive in every child’s day to day activities!
Jackie was a student at Dickinson High School when I was assigned to the school as a resource officer. She has always been outgoing and supportive of her friends and community. She has grown into a leader in the schools and community, as well as a role model for the students whose lives she impacts daily.
Mrs. Schwertz is awesome with students and staff ! She enters everyday with a positive attitude ready to make a difference in the lives of students.
