Deitra Ford-Robinson was nominated by a former colleague, Lona Lax.

Ms. Ford-Robinson has been a special motivator and advocate for the students and parents of HISD and the community.  She participates in many community events for special education, giving unselfishly to assist parents in the support and transitional advancement for students.

"I met Deitra when I worked as a assistant in her classroom.  Deitra would mentor me while I was working with her," said Lax. "She believed in giving endless time to mentor others and be a bigger part of the lives of special needs children.  Because of her, I am a better person in my position of working with students who have special needs."

Ms. Ford-Robinson is well-known and loved by many people in the community, as well as the school district.  She participates in Special Olympics and many other events throughout the community.  Her love and commitment does not stop there.  She has been a big part of Houston Strong, an organization that feeds and assists people who were affected by Hurricane Harvey.

"Her love is never ending, and she deserves to be recognized for her long hours of commitment to her position with HISD," said Lax. "The love and respect she shares with other members of her team, as well as her drive and determination to prove that children with special needs are valued and equal, are what makes her a LifeChanger."

I met Ms. Ford-Robinson while carting as an Interim Special Education Department Chairperson at an Houston ISD High School. While there, I came upon some difficulties with a staff member and the parent’s of a student in that classroom. I made a call to Ms. Ford-Robinson and she came to assist me immediately. She listened to me and offered 100% support in rectifying the problem the parent was experiencing. She did not hesitate to be the Liaison between me and the school Administration. She made herself available to me after hours and weekends. She rearranged her calendar so that she was available to attend ARD meetings with only a days notice. She did all of this for me so that together we could satisfy just one parent. What could have been a lawsuit on the district ended peacefully and professionally because Ms. Ford-Robinson has the Passion that it takes to be a Special Educator. I will always admire her and hold her in the height regard! Thank you Ms. Ford-Robinson.
