Roslynn Stewart was nominated by a parent, Tawanna Morgan.
Roslynn Stewart embodies the fundamental teaching philosophy that all students can learn. Salem Middle School works with a student body that often faces challenges both outside and inside the classroom. This does not stop Ms. Stewart from setting a high bar of excellence for all of her students. Ms. Stewart steps in to make a difference.
"Teachers change lives. There is no success story, or story of failure, that does not involve the influence of a teacher," Morgan said. "As such, my daughter’s former middle-school teacher is an exceptional candidate for recognition."
Ms. Stewart takes the time to determine individual students' motivators and she speaks to them. She has produced amazing results and makes sure her classes have the materials they need.
Ms. Stewart has purchased laptops and software out of her own pocket for her classroom. She makes time on her vacation days to pursue workshops to improve her teaching. Ms. Stewart is often the first to arrive at school and the last to leave. She always makes sure she is fully prepared for class and can accommodate the parents and students that may need extra help or communication. She is a mentor who often takes students under her wing and helps them grow. Ms. Stewart is a change-agent who finds a way to make her class the best possible learning experience she can.
"I have known Ms. Stewart to set up a go-fund-me type of account (it was specific for teachers) to raise money to purchase microscopes for her class," Morgan said. "She is a true servant-leader and she believes and acts in accordance with her God-given calling being to serve children through educating them."
Ms. Stewart is known to be able to "handle" the "trouble-makers," who are often sent to her room when disruptive in other classrooms. This is because Ms. Stewart is intentional about seeing past a child's behavior and engaging that child on their level.
"I hesitate to call Ms. Stewart a teacher because the connotation seems to minimize her efforts to be that of just a giver of information who expects what was given to be regurgitated back on a standardized exam. Ms. Stewart's level of engagement amounts to so much more," Morgan said. "Her encouragement of and engagement with all children, regardless of behavior or aptitude identifies her as an educator."
Ms Roslyn Stewart is an extraordinary teacher. She is passionate about science and is excited when her students understand a concept, theory or truth she presents to them. Roslyn is creative and imaginative . She will spare no expense of her own funds or time to see that her students learn to learn. If you match Ms Stewart up with any teacher, I believe she would rank "superior". She has compassion for each of her pupils and takes time to know their personal learning styles you can not make a better selection than Ms Stewart as Life Changer of the Year. She has definitely changed the lives of many young people by being the GREAT TEACHER that she is!
It is a pleasure to comment on Ms. Roslyn Stewart. First of all Ms. Stewart is an outstanding educator. I first encounter and met Ms. Stewart when she was my student in the Gifted Online Class. She had incredible discipline and did exceptional work. Then she became my teammate at Salem Middle school. This nomination for the Life Changer Award is an honor for Ms. Stewart. Outlined are reasons why she should receive this profound honor.
1. She is extremely passionate about children and teaching. I witnessed her first hand on the excitement she brought to the classroom.
2. She sets high expectations for students and encourages them to always work at their best level. She keeps a positive rapport with her students while establishing trusting relationships.
3. She sets clear objections for all lessons and has great classroom management skills. She ensures great student behavior, effective study and work habits and has an overall respect in the classroom.
4. She is extremely knowledgeable of the curriculum and subject matter. She upholds and ensures her teaching exceeds the standards and is always prepared to answer questions and keeps her instruction and teaching interesting.
5. To conclude, Ms. Stewart implements new and adventurous teaching practices, has a vision for excellence, engaging personality and goes beyond the call of duty with all her lessons providing additional materials and technology for all of her students. She is a team player with students, parents, teachers and administration. I am proud to know such an extraordinary visionary.
While teaching mathematics at Georgia Piedmont Technical College (DeKalb Tech), I was privileged to have Ms. Roslyn Stewart as a student in my statistics class. She was an ambitious and analytical-thinking student, always prepared and always helping the other students. I recall having to miss class a few days for college travel responsibilities. Ms. Stewart could not accept the fact that class would not meet because of my absence. Therefore, she volunteered to “take my place” and she taught the class. What a fantastic job of instruction she did!! Her “end of the quarter” project (on the use of cell phones) was absolutely superb (I still have a copy). Ms. Stewart is to be commended for her role as a true educator. Students will truly benefit from sitting under her tutelage.

While working with Ms. Stewart, I witnessed a true servant-teacher. Ms. Stewart would always come in early and leave late to make sure her students were able to get help before and after school (without getting paid for that time). Ms. Stewart has always been drawn to those students that other teachers found as a disciplinary challenge. She demonstrated grace at all times with her students. After winning the trust of her students, there was no stopping her when dealing with academic achievements. As her supervising assistant principal at Stone Mountain Middle School, it was a pleasure to work with Ms. Stewart.
Ms. Stewart and I come from the same home town. I love her personality and witty comments.
Mrs. Stewart is an awesome educator . She is extremely knowledgeable. I have known Mrs. Stewart for 9 yrs she was my student teacher. I knew then that she would be great for our students and the community in which she is employed.
Ms. Stewart is a phenomenal teacher. I have had the pleasure to mentor to her and she has far exceeded everyone! She is the teacher students will look back on and say, "Ms. Stewart made a difference in my life."
I have known Ms. Stewart for a short period of time, but I could tell you loved being an educator. We met at summer workshop and she was ready and eager to soak up all the information. She was already thinking of ways to incorporate the material in her classroom. She seems like a fun teacher, who goes the extra mile and then another mile or two. I believe that the "Lifechanger" title fits Ms. Stewart and I know that she would be honored to win this title.
If Ms. Stewart anything like her mother(Dr.Waugh) which she is; making things happen, getting the job done even having fun while all this going on, But"0" tolerance because she's plugged in to the Major Current. She's Awesome, you will not be disappointed about anything about her. She's The One.
Ms. Stewart can take the most elementary concept and turn it into the most exciting learning experience. Her students are engaged and stimulated to reach for academic excellence. This is evident in her students' classroom performance and standardized scores.
She also mentors fellow teachers and she is always glad to share ideas, ways, and means to enhance her colleagues as well.
She is well deserving to be honored for her tireless contributions to education.
