Sheila McComas was nominated by her colleague, Kimberley Nixon.

Ms. McComas has been a special education teacher for over 44 years. She is dedicated to her school and students. She organizes a field trip to Morgan's Wonderland each year (for the past 13 years!) for any special education teacher and their students who want to attend. This includes fundraising so families do not have to pay for the park, transportation, or lodging while they are there. She secured donations for the Special Education students from within the community, including fencing for the playground to keep the students safer. She mentors new teachers and is constantly striving to learn new skills herself.

Mrs. McComas was the early childhood special education teacher at Weaver Elementary school when I attended elementary school there. She allowed me to assist her students and classroom when I was in the 5th grade and it led me to find a love for special education and the wonderful students she worked with! Because of the experiences she provided me, I am now an Adapted PE teacher in the same district serving the students of GISD! She has made a lifelong impact on so many students, families and co-workers! Congratulations Sheila! Very well deserved!!
