"Ms. Rhee is one of the most dedicated assistant principals I've ever had the honor to work with. She has a record of excellent performance at the professional level by advocating for every student and is committed to producing a nurturing and positive school culture at the high school," said her nominator. "She assures that that every child's academic, social, and emotional needs are met every day."
Ms. Rhee is an individual who goes above and beyond and does it with a smile. She embodies leadership, not so much through her words, but through her attitude and actions.
Ms. Rhee leaves an imprint everywhere she goes, supporting her teachers, her students, and parents. She has a positive and calm demeanor and is always focused on the solution instead of the problem. She is a strong advocate for students and isn't afraid to demand for what her school and students need.
Despite working from sunrise to sunset; Ms. Rhee's commitment does not just stop at the school site. You can see Ms. Rhee cheering on the football team on Friday nights or supporting the community at the opening or ribbon cutting of other schools. She is a team player who serves as a role model to young women that you can have it all.
"Every high school needs an assistant principal like Ms. Rhee. She is a phenomenal wife, mother, assistant principal, mentor and wears every other hat there is with excellence," said her nominator. "This only scratches the surface of what Ms. Rhee does, and for this, she deserves to be recognized."
I am proud to have been a founding member of the TEACH Academy of Technologies Charter Middle School where I was the Business Office Manager, and first encountered Sharon Rhee the 5th grade teacher and one of the school district’s three original teachers. In a brand new school with many obstacles, Sharon took it all in stride, and took her class under her wing to turn them into lovers of learning. She never expected anything less than 100% focus and discipline from kids who had most likely not been approached that way before, and she inspired it in them with love and caring for each student. Each year she would turn her class into an excited flock that always followed her around to be sure they wouldn’t miss a minute of whatever was next for Mrs. Rhee. If she had troubled students, she would work with them constantly until they could focus along with her class. I understand that Mrs. Rhee has just very recently been made Principal of the TEACH Academy Elementary School. This to me is another perfect assignment for a person who comes to school every day with a refreshed stature, a love of life and children, the inspiration to educate, and the vision to carry her students way beyond any expectations they have ever had for themselves...all while having fun! Sharon is right where she is supposed to be and I wish her many more years of innovation and success. I am so proud to know her and to have worked with her!
She stood out in the crowd, statuesque and intense. She would work within an Interactive Interview group of five, among twenty-one young educators, all vying for one of four positions on the founding teacher’s rooster of a yet to be opened, brand new TEACH Academy of Technologies Charter School, South Los Angeles, California. Assigned to her group, her voice was well heard, clear and resolute in Curriculum Discussions, Lesson Planning, Management, and Situation Problem-Solving. She pronounced professionalism, and advanced leadership skills by her attitude, her aptitude, and her amicability within the group. Mrs. Sharon Rhee was observed, evaluated, and unanimously requested to come and join the TEACH Family!
As the 5th grade teacher, she was exceptionally effective. More than 70% of her students, coming from the local community schools, entered Mrs. Rhee’s 5th grade class performing at 3rd grade, 2nd grade, 1st grade, and kindergarten levels and below! After one year, more than 70% of the 5th grade class functioned at grade level and above!
The TEACH school grew. Through drama and trauma and disappointments and challenge the little school grew. Number of enrollment increased, scores soared, and socio-academic needs multiplied. As the school grew, so did Mrs. Rhee. She increased her learning to attain a Master’s degree in School Counseling with Pupil Personal Services (PPS) Credential, and became School Counselor. While working, and studying, raising her own children, Mrs. Rhee engaged co-workers to share adjunct activities with her, introducing other ways of life to young, inner-city students of TEACH through occasional Saturday outings, and luncheons, swim parties, the theater, and other planned experiences at her expense. Such as these, and more were clear reminders of the laser focus of Sharon Rhee’s commitment to children especially the children of TEACH. Describing, herself as “an Asian mutation,” Mrs. Rhee assured the Founders of TEACH, as she exited the interview room that she was “here for the long haul.” And, that she has been, indeed. Most recently, Mrs. Rhee earned a Master’s degree in Educational Administration with Administrative Credential. She is now Assistant Principal of the TEACH Tech Charter High School.
An Educator, a Manager, a Co-worker, a Wife and Mother, a Friend, a Lady, Mrs. Sharon Rhee is highly recommended for this nomination with ease and my great pleasure.
Mrs. Rhee is a great Human Being. She always has a good heart for everyone. Always trying to help when ever she can. She is a great person, great AP, and its a pleasure to be a part of her team. Thank You for your support Mrs. Rhee.
For as long as I've known Mrs. Rhee, she's always been like a mom to me. Supporting and guiding me on what my next step should be and how to reach my goals. In the time I got into trouble for cheating from the pressure of passing all my classes with A's, I was associated with other students who also cheated. Mrs. Rhee confronted me about the issue, and I told her I didn't cheat with these other students, but cheated cause I wanted to pass with all A's. Mrs. Rhee understood were I was coming from and even took the crying 10th grade Jada into her arms. She vouched for me to get a second chance, while highly encouraging me to apologize to my math teacher, in which I did. After that incident, Mrs. Rhee has been role model I look up to. Always caring, understanding, and still professional. I aspire to change lives, as she did mines.
Ms. Rhee you are the best assistant principal that anyone can ever have. You are like a another mother to me and you always keep it straight forward with me, keep me in check, telling me all the things I need to do and how to get where I need to be.She is a second mother to everybody and she deserves to be recognized.
I’ve known Mrs. Rhee for about 7 yrs now. We started a school together as founding teachers. I saw her dedication to build the school’s culture cultivating love for learning in students. She would always go an extra mile in teaching not just in the classroom but also outside making students feel like they’re family. “Once you’re a teacher, you’re also a mom.” This was one of the most powerful values I’ve learned from her as my mentor-friend-colleague.
I have had the pleasure of working with Mrs. Rhee for the past year and a half, working especially closely with her last year while she was the 9th grade coordinator and I was a first-year teacher. Mrs. Rhee not only fights for her students while holding them to high standards, she is an incredible mentor for teachers as well. My first years of teaching would have been much more of a struggle without her advice, support, and friendship. She is a passionate educator and I feel lucky to be able to work with her every day.
I've known Mrs.Rhee for years now and I can say that she is a very hard working, sweet, caring person. She always has a smile on her face and welcomes you with big arms. I know she does a lot for us students here at school and I as with everyone else appreciate her so much! On a more personal level Mrs. Rhee and I have really good conversations about School, College, and gives me TONS of advice that I should think and consider for my future. I love Mrs. Rhee she is a very kind hearted woman!
Ms. Rhee is the best Assistant Principle because she's a problem solver. Whenever there is a problem she will always solve it. I always see her smiling at everyone and even if she is stressing out, she will never disrespect them. Whenever she sees a student that is looking sad, she will pull them out and ask them if they are okay and if they need helps with something. For example, in my 11th grade I was sad because I felt that my friends were mad at me and I even cry during lunch. Ms. Rhee saw me and took me to her office and ask me what was going on and she give me some advice on what to do. I took her advice and I was able to talk it out with my friends and make everything better. I'm so grateful that Ms. Rhee was there for me. She is the best and as an Assistant Principle she is the greatest.
Throughout my four years being at Teach Tech Charter High School it has been an honor to have a wonderful Assistant Principal,Ms. Rhee. She has made my journey one of the greatest journeys I've ever been through in a school setting. She is one of the best Assistant Principals, and she is one of the best things that could have happen to Teach Tech Charter High School. She is one of the most understanding individuals a person can have in their life.
Throughout the past two years, I've had the opportunity to know Ms. Rhee. Initially, I did not have a lot of contact with Ms. Rhee as she was the 9th grade lead coordinator. However, I noticed in our PD meetings that Ms. Rhee was extremely supportive of the staff and students as well. She was an advocate for both groups and went out of her way to make assignments, activities, etc., as easy as possible for both students and staff. This year, I have gotten to know Ms. Rhee better as our school's assistant principal. In this capacity, Ms. Rhee has continued to shine. She continues to be a strong advocate, holds our students to a high standard, is great with conflict resolution and values and encourages her staff. Ms. Rhee is definitely a leader to our school and positively influential.
I had the opportunity to work with Sharon Rhee,way back in 2010 to 2011. She was both, my coworker and my son's teacher. Till this day she's still an active member of my immediate community. As an educator she is the best. Always goes an extra mile with her students and the parents. Compassionate, caring and always willing to find the solution to a possible issue. My son was 10 years old, when she was his teacher, now he's 18, and still remembers Ms.Rhee, as her favorite and best teacher. We are very grateful that she influenced our family with a posive outlook in education, community and set the stage for expecting excellence , in teacher/student working together. She's definitely a life changer and community support. Her school is very fortunate to have her and we are bless to call her a friend till this day!
Being a new teacher of Teach Tech Charter School, I have instantly found that Mrs. Rhee is an assistant principal as well as a Mentor of this school has been a phenomenal thing for all of us who have witnessed her exceptional talent in managing the affairs of the school. She is committed, dedicated educator whose most important goal is to make sure every child learns, she values the perspectives and opinions of colleagues, and enthusiastic, optimistic, energetic and constantly pursuing opportunities for professional growth. As an additional asset that will help the school gain more grounds, I am supporting Mrs. Rhee, a person known to me, to be of high intelligence and good character to be a LifeChanger. She never hesitates to assist students greatly with the achievement of scholastic goals and objective set forth by the board. Mrs. Rhee has extensive knowledge in academic affairs and has adequate training in management skills. She approaches her work with cheer and diligence, taking pride in honest achievements and excellent work ethics.
It doesn’t come as a surprise to me that Ms. Rhee was nominated for Life Changer of the Year, I’ve known her for several of years now and she’s been a role for me, my sisters and students. I’ve worked closely with Ms. Rhee when I worked at TEACH as an activities coordinator, she was always involved in field trips to universities and activities planned at the high school. At that point she was the High Schools counselor, she always made sure the trips that were being planned were educational for the students and something they would also enjoy. During that time is when TEACH was getting ready to have their first graduating senior class, throughout the year she made sure seniors were meeting their requirements and staying focused, scheduling all seniors for their SAT’s. She always went out of her way to make sure students felt included and made sure they always knew what their next step was. Ms. Rhee can be considered a second mom to all the students. She was always involved in everything that involved the students and made sure everything benefited them but not only that, she made sure all students took advantaged of all that was offered to them. There’s not one word that can describe Ms. Rhee, she’s an amazing friend, teacher, counselor, role model and assistant principal, she remains calm and positive over all circumstances. No doubt she will continue to inspire and encourage others throughout the way.
Mrs. Rhee has a special way of brightening students' days even when they come to school in a bad mood. She knows just how to make everyone feel better. Students at Teach trust her and feel so loved by her. She definitely makes school a better environment for all students where they can come and feel safe. She really does care about the students and they can feel the love. Anytime students need financial, emotional, or social support, Mrs. Rhee is always there to provide what she can in her selfless nature. We appreciate Mrs. Rhee's giving-nature, where all students have the opportunity to feel heard, and they know that they matter.
I have known Sharon for almost 10 years now. If you know her, she has the ability to genuinely connect with people from all backgrounds. There were countless times I was inspired by her commitment to enrich the lives of her students. She was born to be an educator. Recognition for this award is truly well deserved!
What a fantastic platform this is to nominate and feature school district employees! As her husband, I am proud and grateful to learn of her nomination and to read all the supportive comments.
I have to confess that early on in our marriage, I've selfishly wanted her to consider other careers...because I couldn't imagine myself loving students like she does, or commuting through certain dangerous neighborhoods, dealing with tough parents, and working beyond the time-clock. It may sound cliche, but I've come to understand that it really required passion.
Of course it would be nice to recognize all the passionate people in the educational field, but if I am to honor my wife at this moment, to cherish this specific profile page comment section, I would highlight the times I've seen her provide clothes for students to go on their first professional job interview, the many times she was sought by former students on social media giving her their life updates many years after graduation, the times she checked in on even former students who made it to college without parental support. Those students weren't just some job obligations or just some ID number on enrollment forms. She remained their mentor and basically a mother figure for them.
There are times however when she's not so warm and kind as our two boys would attest. She is actually a tough disciplinarian with piercing eyes one would not dare lie to. Tough love some may say. Her poignant authoritative voice may sometimes be what a student needed to hear. Higher standards and expectations. A mix of nurturing warmth with a giddy up to challenge some students and staff to the next level.
I blush sitting here trying to share, reflect, and boast about my wife. It's truly an honor to see her featured for such a nomination. I hope all these comments make her blush too and encourage her to maintain her big passionate heart made of stainless steel for many years to come.
It’s been a little over a year now since I’ve graduated from Teach Tech Charter Highschool and to this day I can still remember how Mrs.Rhee would be on my head about being the best that I can be always telling me to strive for the best no matter how hard things get and no matter how bad of a situation I am in it is important to make light of it and push through obstacles that are in your way to success there was never a time where Mrs.Rhee wasn’t available always there for me always offering the best of advice back against the ropes and when the odds seemed to be stacked against me this woman stood in my corner regardless of what she had going on and made my hardships her priority and for that I am very thankful. She has definitely changed my life and made me view things differently.
I met Ms Rhee in 2015 during my sophomore year of high school. Being tossed in the discussion about what do I want to study in college left me in a confused state for long period of time. I didn't know what I wanted to do which is normal for teenagers, but I had no idea about how I was going to get there. Through the years of her getting me through my anxiety and mental inconveniences of balancing problems at home, school, and decisions towards my future has definitely benefited me more than I could've imagined. Ms Rhee was there whenever I needed her despite not being my counselor in senior year of 2017-18. When I came to her for guidance, there was nothing but positive and realistic energy given back to me. My motivation to go to university increased exponentially when I was introduced to opportunities presented by her such as staying overnight at a university she once attended named Biola, and an internship. After a series of interviews, I was accepted by the Constitutional Rights Foundation to be apart of their 2017 internship program. This resulted me to work for the Aerospace Corporation located in El Sugundo. Thanks to Ms. Rhee, that summer was crucial to me finding out what mark I wanted to leave on this earth. Ever since that experience, multiple doors have opened up for me to expand my horizons and even get accepted into one of the best Polytechnic universities in Southern California.
Being class of 2017 me and Sharon Rhee go way back when I was in the 6th grade this lady has seen me graduate ??????? class of 2017 she always gave me hope and motivation and she never let anyone stop her she is a very strong and inspirational person and that’s what I love about her.
Happy to say she was once my counselor and pushed me into becoming a better student. She also helped me with any problem I had wether it was with class or life related, she was there. Thank you Mrs.Rhee.
Sharon is truly a life changer. She lives with a clear purpose to change one student at a time and one family at a time. I have known Sharon for over 15 years and can honestly say that she is one of the most devoted, hard working and caring teachers out there. Sharon Rhee is someone I admire dearly and aspire to be. She is much more than only an educator. To me, she also resembles a mother, whether it was for education, advise on life, financial issues, etc. she is someone I am able to count on. I have known her for about seven years now. I have witnessed her as a Teacher, Counselor, and Assistant Principal. I have seen her impact the lives of many others, where she has become someone we all love and respect. I have known Sharon for well over ten years, when she was a schoolteacher to now, an amazing assistant principal. Sharon has been an educator for as long as I have known her (18 years). She has a true educator's heart. I've seen her go from a teacher in a private school setting, to public school to counselor, to administrator. She has shown compassion coupled with discipline and creativity in teaching coupled with intelligence. Ms. Rhee is incredibly committed to the present and future of each and every one of our students. Her care is quite evident and is displayed by the everyday conversations that she has with both students and families.
