Ms. Strong is a collaborative coach and instructional leader who champions children and uplifts teacher leadership in her school and in the community. I have worked with Ms. Strong through a university research partnership focused on early childhood and kindergarten readiness. Even though she is not directly involved with the Early Childhood Research-Practice Partnership work with our university, she has gone out of her way to support the project. She brings her creativity and generous spirit to her work and always finding ways to bring rigorous & joyful math learning to students and their families. For example, she hosted and ran a family math cooking night at her school to enhance students' and caregivers' sense of belonging in math and their connection to the school learning community.

It is my honor to recommend Jessica Strong for Life Changer of the Year. As the principal of Grannemann Elementary, I have had the privilege of working closely with Jessica in her role as our Elementary Math Specialist and Instructional Coach. Over the past several years, I have witnessed her transform mathematics teaching and learning in our building through her deep content knowledge, collaborative leadership, and unwavering commitment to equitable access for all students. Jessica is one of the most reflective and innovative educators I have encountered in my career. She has developed a comprehensive approach to mathematics instruction that centers on relevance, student voice, and conceptual understanding. The math tasks she creates are not only aligned with Missouri Learning Standards but also authentically connected to our students’ cultural experiences and community context. This intentional design has made mathematics more meaningful and engaging, helping students see themselves as capable problem-solvers and critical thinkers. Equally remarkable is Jessica’s work as a coach and professional learning leader. She supports teachers across all grade levels through modeling, co-teaching, and data analysis. Her ability to provide feedback that is both specific and empowering has elevated instructional practice schoolwide. Under her guidance, our staff has grown more confident in facilitating rich mathematical discourse, using formative assessment data to drive instruction, and creating environments where productive struggle is celebrated. Beyond her daily coaching work, Jessica has also established structures that sustain instructional growth, such as math tier groups focused on priority standards, family math engagement events, and our before-school Rise and Solve Math Club. These initiatives have strengthened our school’s culture of mathematical thinking and have contributed to measurable gains in both student achievement and teacher efficacy. Jessica is a natural leader; strategic, collaborative, and deeply committed to continuous improvement. She models what it means to lead from a place of purpose and compassion, and she brings a systems-level lens to every initiative she undertakes. I wholeheartedly and without reservation recommend Jessica Strong as the Life Changer of the Year. She represents the kind of thoughtful, equity-minded leadership our field needs to ensure that every child experiences mathematics as meaningful, joyful, and empowering.
