Music that Describes Phillip
Phillip Daniels was nominated by his principal, Lana Headley.
"Mr. Daniels is a LifeChanger, for sure! He has been a teacher at our school for many years. Our students describe his teaching style as fun and interesting because he tells random jokes, goes on and on about a particular science topic, and then says, 'Sorry guys, I've just talked too long about this,'" said Headley.
Mr. Daniels serves as the IB (International Baccalaureate) Coordinator at his school, ensuring that the school's IB Primary Years Programme aligns with IB standards. He has excellent classroom management skills, and students respect and look up to him. Mr. Daniels has also completed the Aspiring Leaders program. He has grown so much in his understanding of each leadership practice and proficiency area.
"Each week, we hold PLC (Professional Learning Community) meetings with our teachers. I see firsthand his leadership skills in action as our team digs into the Benchmarks for Excellent Student Thinking and State Academic Standards. He ensured that students had equivalent experiences to prepare them on an ongoing basis for the Florida Assessment of Student Thinking, particularly in science. Each card marking, he hosts 'Science After School' events for students and their families to participate in engaging science lessons to help our students understand science concepts that they are struggling with. His strong scientific conceptual understanding and his sharing of knowledge with our students are just one example of him being a LifeChanger," said Headley.
"Our science scores have almost doubled from 38 to 65%. Mr. Daniels also serves on the grants committee for FLIBS (Florida Leagues of IB Schools) and oversees the planning of professional development opportunities for IB PYP teachers. During our fall workshop, he inspired one of the kindergarten teachers to lead a professional development session. She had never done this before, but she did a fantastic job! This is another example of how he inspires others to be their best selves," said Headley.
Mr. Daniels always has words of encouragement for the teachers at our school. This is especially helpful for male teachers, since there are so few of us in the profession. I really appreciate his support.

When I was a new teacher, Mr. Daniels helped me to understand what it meant to not only be a teacher, but an IB teacher. He told me to just take one little section of IB and do it well, then add another and another until you have it mastered.
He helped me come up with fun student-led lessons and experiences that students would use to not only get a deeper connection to the material but to also take ownership in it and enjoy it too. Mr. Daniels always challenged me to be my best because that’s what the students deserved- even if our best looks different each day.
Mr. Daniels is an incredible teacher, leader, and friend. When I moved out of state to pursue other jobs- he was willing to act not only as a reference, but to write a recommendation as well.
These are only a couple things he did to change just MY life- let alone the influence he has had over hundreds more. Phillip Daniels is a life changer.

Mr. Daniels is truly one of the most brilliant and genuine educators I’ve ever worked with. His passion for science and his ability to make students excited about learning is incredible. Beyond that, he’s an amazing human being, when I was going through chemotherapy, he quietly supported my family and me with food gift cards and kindness that meant the world to us. He inspires not just students, but colleagues too, to be better every day. So well deserved! #LCOY #LifeChangerOfTheYear

Mr. Daniels is wonderful! When I started teaching at DEA, he made the transition to joining an IB school incredibly smooth. Any questions I had, he was always happy to answer! Even now, he shares his wealth of knowledge and always extends a helping hand. Most recently, he has encouraged everyone to apply for a FLIBS grant and offered to review/give feedback. Helping teachers and students comes naturally to Mr. Daniels.
