Kelly Fydenkevez was nominated by her principal, Steve Pearson. 

Ms. Fydenkevez has been nothing short of phenomenal in her time as a physical education (PE) and health teacher at Birchland Park. She consistently achieves results in the classroom and in the gymnasium and, even more importantly, builds strong relationships with her students. She is unafraid to tackle any topic in the health classroom, and her students come away with a strong understanding of themselves, their choices, and the responsibilities they have in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Her students are always engaged and are unafraid to step out of their comfort zones to participate in her dynamic lessons. In the gymnasium, her classes are well-organized, fun, and characterized by having an entry point for all, regardless of ability level. Students enjoy being around "Mrs. Fydo". She can often be found having conversations with them in the hallway or in the cafeteria as well.

Some of her most significant impact, however, is seen in the Unified PE class that she conducts twice a week at the school. This class allows students with disabilities to participate in PE activities with their regular ed peers. It is the very definition of inclusivity and a strong school community. Both groups of students enjoy it immensely and derive a great deal from it.
