LifeChanger of the Year Nominee Profile

Juan Gaitan was nominated by a colleague who wishes to remain anonymous.

Mr. Gaitan volunteers his time during lunch and after school to help his students. He is the type of teacher who doesn't say no to his students when they want to improve. Often times, he gives up his Saturdays to come in and provide his students with a place where they can have access to a computer and the internet. He is the sponsor of his school's culinary arts club (Grub Club) and is a co-sponsor of the Engineering Club.

Mr. Gaitan has a special gift; he is able to effectively teach kids of all levels. He knows how to challenge his Honors students and also implements strategies to help his lower level students succeed.

"His attitude in the classroom is unmatched, and he provides a fun and inviting learning atmosphere. His love for teaching and learning is why he is often selected by our administration to present professional development lessons to the faculty," his nominator said. "He prepares his students for life beyond high school and because of his teachings, they usually score well on their college entrance exams."
