Mrs. Key is a dedicated, inspiring teacher whose work has made a lasting difference in the lives of her students and in the school. Mrs. Key leads one of the top-performing Early Childhood programs in Mississippi. For the second consecutive year, her program is ranked #1 in the state, and her students have achieved a 100% pass rate on their national certification exams. These accomplishments mean that every single one of her students leaves prepared to step directly into the workforce or continue their studies with confidence. She also provides students with opportunities to apply what they're learning in real-world contexts. For example, her students were highlighted by the district's Family Education Center for teaching a hands-on activity to preschool children. That kind of experience helps them see themselves as future educators and gives them valuable practice before they graduate.
Mrs. Key helps create a supportive, professional atmosphere in the school's CTE Center. Her students' projects are often displayed during open houses and events, such as CTE Lunch & Learn sessions, giving the community a glimpse of their skills and raising pride in the school. These efforts make the campus feel more welcoming and demonstrate the students' capabilities. She was also named the 2024–2025 CTE Teacher of the Year, a recognition from her peers that reflects her significant contributions to her school's success and climate.
Mrs. Key is recognized as a leader within the school and across the region. In 2025, she was named a "Top Teacher" by Gulf Coast Woman Magazine, honoring her as one of the Coast's most inspiring educators. The district also highlighted her as a standout teacher shaping young minds. These honors show that her impact extends well beyond her classroom.
She also helped lead the way in the district's new partnership with Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. Moss Point became the first school on the Coast to offer dual-credit CTE courses, including Early Childhood Profession, which allows students to earn college credit while still in high school. That's a significant accomplishment that expands opportunities for her students and raises the bar for what's possible in CTE. The results speak for themselves: #1 ranked program in the state for two years in a row, 100% certification pass rate for her students, 2024–2025 CTE Teacher of the Year, and 2025 Gulf Coast Woman Magazine "Top Teacher." These achievements show her commitment, skill, and consistency at the highest professional level.
What sets Mrs. Key apart is her heart for students. She makes sure her classroom feels like a community where everyone is valued. She pushes her students to meet high expectations but also provides encouragement, support, and personal guidance along the way. Many of her students credit her as the reason they believe they can succeed in early childhood education. Mrs. Key is a role model of professionalism. Mrs. Key was my teacher for Early Childhood 1 and 2, and she also taught me in the dual-credit college class. She truly cares about her students and always wants us to succeed.
