Kristin VanCuren was nominated by her principal, Carrie Hill.
"As an administrator at Dominion Ridge Academy, I have had the privilege of working closely with Ms. VanCuren over the past 13 years, during which she has consistently exemplified excellence in teaching, character, and leadership within our elementary division. Ms. VanCuren is a gifted classroom teacher and a natural leader among our faculty. She brings a steady, thoughtful presence to our team, offering mentorship and collaboration with grace and humility," said Hill.
Ms. VanCuren's classroom management is exemplary; her students are consistently engaged, respectful, and motivated, mainly due to the positive and nurturing environment she creates. She demonstrates a deep understanding of child development and applies this insight in ways that make learning both effective and enjoyable.
What sets Ms. VanCuren apart is her ability to lead both in and beyond the classroom. She is often at the forefront of planning and implementing school-wide academic initiatives, especially within the elementary grades. For example, her coordination of the annual History Fair has become a signature event that showcases student creativity, research skills, and public speaking abilities. Through projects like this, Ms. VanCuren has empowered not only her own students but also inspired other teachers to adopt more dynamic, student-centered learning experiences.
She is also instrumental in promoting a culture of kindness and community among students and staff. She models and encourages love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. These values are evident in her daily interactions and have become foundational in how the younger students learn to treat one another. Her calm demeanor and strong sense of purpose make her a role model for students and fellow educators.
Parents consistently express their appreciation for Ms. VanCuren's teaching, often requesting her for their children. They know that their child will be challenged academically while being known and loved personally. Her students flourish under her guidance—not just in knowledge, but in character.

Ms. Van Curen taught my son many years ago in 4th grade. She is a wonderfully kind, patient and gifted teacher. She has continued to support and encourage him throughout his time at DRA. She gives so much to the DRA community above and beyond the classroom. She is a gift to the DRA community!
Ms. VanCuren was my fourth-grade teacher. She puts her whole heart and soul into teaching her students. She also enjoys knowing what is going on in my life even though I've moved on to another school.
I am a junior in college, and I had the privilege of having Ms. VanCuren as my first science teacher in 5th grade after being homeschooled for 6 years. She was always prepared and had a smile on her face and was able to teach in a way that made science interesting to someone who is not a fan of science. I am so glade I got the privilege to have her as my science teacher!
She was my teacher when I was in fourth grade and she was so fun, kind and would bring smiles to the faces of all my classmates. Even as I continued through the rest of my school years, she was always encouraging and gave wonderful advice. She is a wonderful example of grace to all who cross her path.
My son loves her class so much! He gets excited everyday to go school! She is fantastic I am very happy that she is my son’s fourth grade teacher !
She taught my nephews, and they loved her. Very gifted and a motivator for every student! Even though they are a 12th and 8th grader, they still talk about her!
I myself did not have the pleasure of experiencing her class, however, I have seen the tremendous impact she has had on co-workers, staff members, and students. Not only does she make learning understandable, she makes it fun and engaging. She meticulously prepares her lessons in a creative way designed individually for each student. She looks beyond the students education but also teaching them life skills such as responsibility, communication, self-awareness, respect, and creativity. She comes in every weekday with a smile on her face willing to help each student.
I am currently a junior in high school. Ms. VanCuren taught my fourth-grade class many years ago, and she remains one of my favorites to this day. She is a wonderful person and teacher. She has a deep love for teaching, and it shows beautifully. She always brings a sense of joy and comfort to a classroom. I am truly grateful to have had the opportunity to experience her as a teacher.

I had the privilege of working with Ms. VanCuren last year at DRA. She was a fantastic mentor and helped guide me during the school year. Even the younger students look forward to being in her class in the years to come.
Love watching how she encourages the best out of each of her students. Her former students also enjoy visiting her classroom and do so most days.
I had the privilege of going to college with Kristin and working alongside her at Dominion Ridge. She encouraged me to continue my degree despite setbacks, and then work through difficulties as a classroom reacher. She builds up the best in her students (and her friends!).
As a Senior, Ms VanCuren has always been one of my favorite teachers! She is more than just a teacher, she inspires every student to do their best.
Ms. VanCuren is wonderful! As an educator myself, I know first hand how hard she works. Her dedication to her school and students in UNMATCHED. My children were lucky enough to have her as their teacher!

Although my children did not have the privilege of being in Ms. VanCuren class, I have personally witnessed her unwavering commitment to all students and her school community. She exemplifies every quality that the Life Changer Award represents — dedication, compassion, and a genuine desire to make a lasting impact in the lives of others.
Ms. VanCuren is the best, she brought history alive for me and class. I look forward to the history fair every year because of her.

Ms VanCuren was my oldest son's FIRST experience in a full time school environment after we had homeschooled for 3 years. She was absolutely fabulous with him and he had an exceptional fourth grade year. The interactive methods she used for teaching history made such an impression that my now 11th grader, still remembers the lessons he learned in 4th grade. Several years later, she was my second son's 4th grade teacher. Her stoic sense of humor endeared her to my second born and he had a fabulous and very successful year in 4th grade. I am genuinely looking forward to my youngest experiencing her class next year. Ms VanCuren is a gem of an educator who I know both as a parent and fellow colleague and in over 25 years of teaching, she ranks as one of the top educators, I've ever known! It seems as though no matter what gets tossed into her ring, she is fully prepared to win the round!

I taught middle and high school at DRA, and my students were constantly asking if they could go say good morning to Miss VanCuren. Even years after having her as their teacher, she still took up a big place in their hearts.
Kristin was my student teacher many years ago. She was amazing then, so I can only imagine how incredible she is now! From the first day, I could tell that she was a born teacher!

Some people become teachers because, frankly, they need a job. Some people do it because they love the idea of helping to form the next generation of our society and having a significant role in that formation. But then, some do it because they're compelled to; they have a genuine calling to the life. Ms. VanCuren exemplifies the last statement. It's not usually possible for one person to change the world, but it is entirely possible to change someone's world. In that sense, Ms. VanCuren has changed the world many, many times, and I cannot imagine someone being more deserving of such a recognition.
I have had the privilege of observing Kristin grow from an earnest, hard-working first-year teacher into a wise, still bubbly professional educator. The love and energy she brings into her classroom inspire all of her students to reach their skylights.

Kristin is one if the most dedicated teachers I’ve had the privilege of knowing. She goes well above and beyond for every student that crosses her path. She is effective because her students know that she cares deeply for them and meets then where they are in their learning journey. We are a privileged community to have such a servant-minded teacher to guide our youth!
We are beyond grateful for the impact Ms. VanCuren had on our family. She has taught and inspired each of our children in such meaningful ways—nurturing their curiosity, encouraging their confidence, and believing in them even when they doubted themselves.
