Angela Alferez was nominated by a colleague, Amalia Ojeda.
Ms. Alferez has been in education for over nine years in the Arvin Union School District. She has worked as an aide, substitute teacher, and an intervention teacher. She works with the students who have the greatest needs. For the last few years, she has been an Ambassador of the Leaders Readers Network and has been getting books into children's hands at her site. The help of colleagues who supported her service projects and book distributions allowed teachers and students to build their book libraries.
Angela Alferez is a very dedicated teacher, in her role at El Camino Elementary I witnessed her commitment to the students on a daily basis. She worked hard to create a positive learning environment and got along with staff and parents, she is truly an asset to the District and community.
I was Angela’s university supervisor while she was a teacher candidate at CSUB just before Covid struck, and I can honestly say that she was the best candidate in recent memory. I was astounded by her ability to intuitively connect with students and her uncanny understanding of the community she served. I am grateful to see that Angela is still performing capably and meaningfully impacting lives.
I have worked with Angela Alferez, and have seen her interest in the educational growth of students. As part of the Leaders Readers Network, she has taken various aspects of students' social experiences and has applied them to reading experiences for students in the classroom in fun and engaging ways. Ms. Alferez has been amazing to work with, and the students of Arvin are extremely lucky to have a kind and supportive teacher such as Ms. Alferez. She is inspiring, and has inspired me to take a deeper interest in the musical growth of my students through lyrical songs as she has with her reading experiences.
Mrs. Alferez has a wonderful personality that attracts others around her. As a teacher she is very helpful and very dedicated to making everyone in that class do their best. She brings a spark of light to all the kids she helps with her smile and creativity. Her dedication to her work and to make a difference with her students have made her well known in the community and in our district. I definatelly support her as Lifechanger of the year, because she's been a lifechanger to a lot of us that have the pleasure to work with her, and have our kidos in her class.

I have known Mrs. Alferez and her parents for several years. Mrs. Alferez and I have been employed for the same district for the past 9 yrs. She is an amazing teacher. Three of my grandchildren had the privilege of having her as a teacher and they love her. We had a hard time getting the help my grandaughter needed and Mrs. Alférez fought along side me and my daughter to insure she got the help she needed. I will always be grateful for everything she has done for my grandkids.

We were fortunate enough to have Mrs. Alferez as my sons 1st grade teacher during what was arguably one of the most challenging school years to be a teacher. This was a very unique situation as the children in our community were returning to the classroom for the fist time after having spent the previous year and a half in distance learning due to the COVID pandemic. Like many children, ours struggled to adapt to the classroom setting. Despite this setback, Mrs. Alferez was not only patient and understanding, but she was also quick to communicate and work with us to devise a plan to help him overcome this hurdle. Much to our relief, it was a success! To us, someone's willingness to go above and beyond to help others is what it means to be a "Life Changer." Thank you Mrs. Alferez.
Mrs. Alferez is a great teacher! All 4 of my kids have had the privilege to be in her class which they loved so much. I've seen how much she has cared and educated them along with the rest of her students. She is always there for each and every one of them. The way she participates in school activities and goes above and beyond for her students is what makes her a great teacher!

Angie, as I like to call her, has been a close friend of mine for more than 20 years. In recent years however, I have had the pleasure of working with her in education and I could not be happier about it. I felt her support instantly, as many others do that work with her feel on a daily basis. I will always be a fierce supporter of anything she does and sets her mind to because I know she has a big heart and her motivation is pure. Her qualities ripple through her daughters as she is raising them to be just as kind and generous as her. Angie is guided by principles and leads with compassion and integrity and not a day that goes by that I don’t see her helping someone else. That level of care and motivation is something she was born with and it makes her be a person people want to be around including her students, who I’m sure will always remember “Ms. Alferez” as their favorite teacher. Hello I'm a parent of two students who had the privilage of being in Mrs Alferez's 1st grade class. Mrs. Alferez helped me guide my oldest son to challenge him and support him with different resources. She introduced him to "Battle of the Books" and recommended him to join as a 2nd grader. It was a great experince for him! With my youngest son, she continued to teach, give her extra attention, guidence, and dedication. It's been 4 years since I met Mrs Alferez, and she still keeps in touch with us! Mrs. Alferez is a phenomenal teacher who deserves to be nominated. I'm sure that just like she has inspired my boys she has done the same with many other students. I'm thankful for her guidence with my boys' education.

Mrs. Alferez is a dedicated educator who goes above and beyond when it comes to educating all of her students, as well as supporting all of our colleagues. She has taken different roles and each role has supported her in growing as an educator. This growth exemplifies the immense amount of pedagogical practices she has gained throughout her career and can be observed during her lessons where she can target all students strengths and needs in the MTSS system from tier 1 (universal) to tier 3 (intensive support). In addition, Mrs. Alferez also shares her wealth of pedagogical practices with other educators either by direct modeling or open discussions during each grade level's PLT's (Professional Learning Teams) weekly meetings. Mrs. Alferez continues to grow and adapt to changes in the educational field,especially when it comes to the new shift into the SOR (Science of Reading) paradigm, where she is researching and applying evidence and researched based practices to better support her students' reading and language acquisition skills.
I’ve had the joy of knowing Mrs. Alferez for several years. She used to work at my school as an intervention teacher and has now returned as a reading interventionist—and we couldn’t be happier to have her back! Mrs. Alferez is one of those rare teachers who makes everyone around her feel seen, supported, and cared for. She’s always willing to help a coworker or lift a student’s spirits, and she does it all with a smile.

Hello my name is Kassandra Hendricks and l am a school nurse. I had the pleasure of working with Ms. Alferez for approximately 3 years. She is a such a positive spirit and ray of sunshine, literally. I have seen her time and time again go above and beyond for her students. We have collaborated to advocate for what is in the best interests of the students in Arvin. First and foremost, Mrs. Alferez is one of the most devoted and charismatic educators I have had the privilege of working with. As a school social worker, I often view educators through a unique lens. In the five years I have known her, she has consistently stood out not only for the academic success of her students, but also for the deep care she shows for their social and emotional well-being.
