A true teacher leader with a heart of gold, Mrs. Barzaga serves Good Shepherd Catholic School in multiple roles that lift students, empower teachers, and advance the school's mission—always with care, love, and professionalism.
Mrs. Barzaga is a homework help facilitator. She leads a daily homework support program, enabling students to master skills, close learning gaps, and apply concepts from class with confidence.
Mrs. Barzaga is the grade-level Team Leader for grades 3-5. She coaches new and veteran teachers, shares resources, models best practices, and fosters a collaborative culture that raises instructional quality across the team.
Mrs. Barzaga is a Catechist Certification Coordinator. She guides faculty formation and certification, ensuring the teaching is rooted in faith and mission.
Mrs. Barzaga is the Summer Program Director, designing and overseeing a targeted summer program focused on closing gaps and meeting summer school expectations. Her program helps students hit the ground running in the fall—including providing support to complete summer assignments successfully.
Mrs. Barzaga is an advocate for enrichment and the arts. She previously led the Drama Team and enrichment activities that build confidence, creativity, and joy in the students.
What makes her a LifeChanger, however, is that she's student-centered. She meets learners where they are and moves them forward with patience and high expectations. She builds up the staff, strengthening colleagues through mentorship, clear communication, and dependable follow-through. She embodies servant leadership and forms hearts as well as minds.

I feel so blessed that both of my children had the privilege of being taught by Mrs. Barzaga. She is more than just an amazing teacher—she is a true blessing in her students’ lives. Mrs. Barzaga has been my daughter’s teacher for two years and she has been a blessing. So happy to see Mrs. Barzaga be nominated for such an award! She was my 2nd grade teacher when during my time at GSCS 16 years ago!! She made such an impact being an incredible teacher and motivator to myself and my peers. I’ll always remember the little “tradition” my classmates had with her of bumping hips and saying “BOOMBA!!” she kept lessons fun but was an incredible mentor. We were blessed to have her twice as a teacher to my daughters. I think my favorite memory is when she realized that my youngest was faking a headache to skip Spanish class. Laughing with her stayed stuck in my head

For over 20 years, I have witnessed Marion’s deep commitment to her students and her vocation as an educator. She is a caring professional who consistently goes above and beyond to ensure her students feel supported, valued, and encouraged to grow. Marion lives her Catholic faith in word and action, modeling kindness, integrity, and compassion every day.
Marion and I worked hand in hand for over 15 years to build the Good Shepherd Catholic School Summer Camp into what it is today—the best camp in town. Her dedication, creativity, and tireless energy were key to its success and to the joy it continues to bring to countless children.

As a mom of one current student and one former student, I can truly say she has made a lasting impact on both of my children. My older child still talks about the lessons and encouragement she gave, and my younger one is now experiencing that same support and inspiration in her class. Mrs. Barzaga was the very first teacher to welcome my son Jacob when he started at his current school in second grade, and now, in fourth grade, we feel incredibly blessed to have her again.
