LifeChanger of the Year Nominee Profile

Lucy Juarez was nominated by an anonymous colleague.

Ms. Juarez is the nicest and most understanding teacher one could meet! She takes the time to not only plan for her lessons, but get to know her students, as well. Students feel at home in her class, and they see her as a maternal figure. There have been many students who have adopted her as "the mother of Garfield." She gives her students encouragement and guidance, not only in academics, but in life.

This year, after several years of students begging her, she is teaching AP Calculus. It takes a special person to be a teacher, and an even more special teacher to be able to connect with their students and make them feel welcome and worthy.  That kind of teacher is Ms. Juarez.  It is no coincidence that the students who take her classes do well, not only in their math grades, but on college entrance exams and state tests. She makes herself available to students so they have support after high school graduation, and so they can contact her when they have issues in college.
