Mrs. Cervantes has been very instrumental in helping Garfield HS receive the California Gold Ribbon award. She is innovative and is always seeking new ways to teach her lessons so that her students can have the best learning experience. She attends workshops on her own time and meets with people in her field to share ideas on how she can get better as a teacher and help her students maximize their learning potential. There have been times when the administration has asked her to develop curriculum for credit recovery courses from the ground up. Students are her top priority, and she ensures that she is prepared every day so her students have the best opportunities for learning.

Mrs. Cervantes volunteers her time to tutor her students before school, during lunch and after school. Her unselfishness is one of the reasons her students not only do well in her class, but in other classes, as well. The skills she teaches them carry over to their other classes, and their level of success is contagious.

"As her colleague, it is great to see the positive impact she has on our students and how the interactions she has with them shape and mold them into better students who love to learn," said her nominator.
