Dawn Ward was nominated anonymously.

First and foremost, Ms. Ward builds strong relationships with both the students and their parents. Her goal is to connect with each of her students in some way. Building positive relationships with parents starts with sharing positive news from school about their child! She gives her students little notes that they take home to brag to their parents about something positive they did. That way, if she has to make negative calls, they're less uncomfortable, and parents are more willing to work with her because she has established a positive relationship with them.

She begins her year with a lesson about the importance of words, using a tube of toothpaste. She wants to help her students understand that her classroom is a safe place to make mistakes because that is how they learn. By getting to know her students, she uses what she knows about them to help them become experts in something at some point. That farm kid may not be a strong reader, but he understands a great deal about animals and plants. Those less than confident students need to be called on when they feel confident about the topic. Eventually, they grow braver, and those hands go up more and more. But all in all, it comes down to the teacher not demanding their respect, but by respecting them and earning theirs.

She will be moving from second to fourth-grade science and has been blessed by the positive messages she has received from former parents who will have her again. That is the ultimate compliment. She is looking forward to the opportunity to teach hands-on activities that the students can get excited about!

Ms. Ward is entering her 25th year as an educator. She has formerly taught first grade and served as a principal in a Catholic school. Most recently, she has spent the last decade teaching second grade. This will be her first year teaching middle school.

We love Mrs. Ward!! She is truly amazing. My oldest really struggled in math when she was at the elementary. Mrs. Ward was his 2nd grade teacher. She has consistently helped him over come his struggles in math (2nd) and now in science class (4th) grade. She is always so uplifting and encouraging and knows that he can do it! She is one of a kind and I am so very grateful for her!!!

Dawn Ward is kind and caring. She has installed courage and confidence in my granddaughter. She always has time to encourage her to do her best. Mrs Ward opens her door in the morning or after school to talk things over with her. I thank Mrs Ward for all she does.

Mrs. Ward has to be one of the most genuine, caring, and gifted teachers I have ever met. Every once in a while a teacher comes along who not only teaches the different subjects, but teaches courage, bravery and how to be a good human being and that's Mrs. Ward. She was able to take my daughter from a child who hated to answer questions, participate or read anything out loud, to being a child who loves going to school and answering questions. She even enjoys reading. When she is having stress due to school or an upcoming test all I have to say is "what would Ward say" and it's an automatic smile and she says I can do this. Mrs. Ward always says "once a Ward kid always a Ward kid" andy daughter will always be a Ward kid.

Mrs.ward is definitely one of the best teachers I have ever met. She cares for the kiddos just like they are her own children. I will never forget how she helped my boy with everything from confidence too spelling and he still stops to see her in her classroom to see her from time to time.

She truly understands that all students don't learn the same and goes above and beyond to make sure that she sets a good foundation for students to push beyond their learning hurdles and achieve their fullest potential. She cares deeply about her students and keeps up with them as they age to help them in any way possible for them to be successful. This is a well-deserved nomination. Good Luck Dawn.

It has been many years since I have been in a classroom. At the time Mrs. Ward was a substitute teacher, and the best one at that! She has worked all over our district in coshocton county ridgewood, coshocton, and I’m assuming she has been to river view but I could be wrong. Mrs. Wards moto is “once a ward kid always a ward kid” and she really means it! It’s like a second family but you’re treated as if you had her last name. I will forever be grateful for all of the memories many years ago and if I ever had to go back in time to a moment in school it would be with Mrs. Ward!

Amazing teacher all of my kids love her so much and has made such an impact on the two that she has taught. From making them enjoy school and actually want to go. And being there for when there grandma passed going as far as checking in on the siblings that weren't even in her class. So much love and respect for everything she does.

This beautiful soul is my wonderful daughter! She has a heart of gold! She loves each student as though they were her baby! She has helped second graders through loss of grandparents siblings and so on pets whatever they needed she was there for that child! She once had a little boy who couldn't speak English. She taught him English and he learned to read once he got the language! He has since moved to Florida. But he continues to contact his favorite teacher Mrs. Ward she would get calls I'm having trouble in math she helped him! He started getting good grades. Then he would read a AR nook to her! She listened intently to his every word. She will always be here for him who knows hopefully through college!! She is a very deserving teacher for all she does but she would be quick to day no momma, I'm just doing what I love!
