Ms. Holmes has made such a positive difference in my daughter’s life. During my daughter’s 6th grade year, Ms. Holmes truly awakened a love of science for my daughter. She went out of her way to create engaging lessons and did many science experiments that made learning interesting and engaging. She coordinated parent involvement to support her class with volunteering and with encouraging modest donations of supplies for added science experiments and a prize box without making anyone feel obligated to donate. She implemented a ticket award system to positively encourage learning and good behavior in her students. She planned and lead the most thoughtful and fun field trip to a science learning center, where I got to see first hand as a chaperone how much care, skill and support she pours into all of her students. My daughter is currently in her 8th grade year and has Ms. Holmes as a teacher again, now for her Hospitality class and in learning so much and enjoying every minute of her instruction. Ms. Holmes went above and beyond by not only leading them through the normal curriculum, but also guiding her students through a certification program that allows students to be qualified to do more volunteering and work in the food and hospitality industry. This allows the students to gain even more skills and expertise and explore future career opportunities. Ms. Holmes fosters a vibrant, positive environment for her students and fellow staff and faculty. My daughter has said more than once that she thinks she may want to be a teacher just like Ms. Holmes. I sure you are considering many well-deserving teachers for this prestigious award. I humbly ask you to please consider Ms. Holmes very seriously. I was actually raised by an excellent educator (my mom), and I have four children. Thus, I have seen so many great teachers over the years and have the utmost respect for this profession. My son, Daniel, has been incredibly fortunate to have this wonderful teacher since 6th grade. Having a teacher remain such a positive constant over several years is truly special, and the impact she has had on Daniel is easy to see.

I would like to nominate Ms. Holmes for Life Changer of the Year. She was my son’s 6th grade honors science teacher at Longfellow.
She made science enjoyable and set clear expectations during an important transition into middle school and a magnet program. My son is now in 9th grade at Townview SEM, and the foundation she helped build has assisted him with better note taking and study skills.
As a parent, I appreciated the study guides she provided, which made it easier to help my child study at home. She held students to a higher standard and helped prepare them for the increased expectations of middle school.
Ms. Holmes was an outstanding 6th grade Honors Science teacher, and we are deeply grateful for the experience our son, Syeed, had in her class. She is highly organized, motivational, and genuinely fun, which made science engaging and accessible. Her use of an online notebook was a true game changer. It was the first time we had seen a teacher use technology so thoughtfully to support learning and organization, and it helped Syeed take real ownership of his work. Even without the newest science equipment, Ms. Holmes consistently created a high quality learning experience through structure, creativity, and clear passion for teaching. Her impact on our son’s confidence and curiosity in science has lasted well beyond his time in her class 3 years ago.

Words can’t describe the impact Mrs. Holmes made on my life. She knew me best when I was a young teenager as I was learning to navigate the difficulty of middle school. When I had a hard time in school, work, or life outside of school, she was very supportive and someone that I could always rely on for support. Mrs. Holmes always knew how to best support me with advice and still does to this day, as a now 23 year old. When I was no longer her student she always made sure to check in on me and make sure I was doing okay. Kathryn, or Katy as I call her, is my daughter and I have watched her grow into a gifted, loving and intelligent person.
All through her life, when she meets an obstacle, it becomes a challenge not a hindrance and this she carries into her classroom with teaching and helping her students. She is always thinking of ways to teach them so that they enjoy learning.
I know she is fiercely protective of her students and will provide a safe place for them to love to come to every day. When you have that, teaching them becomes so much easier. Aside from the curriculum, she is teaching these young minds life skills that maybe some don't get at home. She helps me feel seen and appreciated in the classroom, and everytime I participate she makes me feel awarded for participating in class. I feel nothing but admiration, and proud for being in her class, considering she teaches a middle school class. I have heard and seen that this teacher is amazing none like any other. She works professionally and quickly. she makes every kid in the classroom active and makes sure each kid understands everything before moving on.
Ms. Holmes always plans out really cool and fun stuff to make us feel good and welcomed. The field trips that she makes are awesome because they show us how to be a good service person to make others feel very satisfied. Culinary class wouldn't be culinary without Mrs. Holmes. She takes the subject above and beyond, making sure that we understand and that it is fun. She often includes games and activities that make culinary not just about cooking.

One day in class, Ms. Holmes saw I was about to cry, probably because I was having a terrible day and felt super overwhelmed by everything. She acted really fast, pulling me out into the hall before anyone else really noticed my eyes were watering
Once we were outside, away from everyone, she asked what was wrong in this quiet, nice way. It felt safe to talk to her, even though I didn't say much. She gave me a big hug, which helped a lot. Then she said I could just sit outside the room to chill for a bit and get some space. Getting that time to myself really helped me feel a lot better and calm down before I had to go back
As a current senior in high school, till this day I still am in communication with Ms. Holmes. I’m not writing this because Ms. Holmes is my favorite teacher of all time, but because of the impact she has made in my life and others. I know it’s easy to say that but it’s the actions she has made that speak louder. Ms. Holmes has been my biggest motivator and best supporter. When I wanted to give up like now I am struggling on college applications, she tells me to keep moving forward because I have the initiative and I just need the support which is her role. Not only was she a great teacher to me, I’m confident she is a great teacher and role model to many others students just like she did to me.
