Laura Quiroz-Torres was nominated by her colleague, Nora Galvan.

Mrs. Quiroz-Torres has been an elementary librarian for the past 10 years. According to her educational partners, she's a librarian who extends beyond the circulation desk by transforming the library in to a resource center for kids and teachers to enjoy. She assists teachers in writing grants, promotes up-to-date technology, and motivates parents and the community to get involved with their children's education.

She has co-authored a number of grants, including one that afforded her campus to beautify the school grounds and convert the grounds into an outdoor classroom. She was instrumental in writing her school's National Blue Ribbon Schools application. This is a nationally recognized award where the USA Secretary of Education recognized her school's accomplishments.

Mrs. Quiroz-Torres is a stellar librarian with a heart to serve primarily students, parents, fellow educators, and the community. She uses her library expertise to take the students to worlds they may one day visit. She uplifts the campus to the highest accolades in reading, and her role in curating a robust campus community is indispensable. Mrs. Quiroz-Torres works laboriously to innovate and push the bounds of what it takes to be the best. She is a change-maker, an advocate, and a great inspiration to all. She incentivizes and nurtures a positive and inviting atmosphere by promoting events that encourage parents and grandparents to get involved with their children. These events include Muffins for Moms, Donuts for Dads and Granolas for Grandparents. As she promotes these programs, she also hosts a Scholastic Book Fair.

Mrs. Quiroz-Torres serves in the district Library Curriculum Connection group, where she helps to connect the library to classroom skills. She is involved with district, state, and national library promotions. She presents at district, regional and state conferences, where she and her fellow librarians are a hit with their presentation. Mrs. Quiroz-Torres truly is a leader who accomplishes goals beyond any expectations.

She's also a step ahead with her school's annual summer reading program by making sure that her students stand out in the crowd. For example, when the program theme was "Paris," most students dressed up with the T-shirt that was gifted to them, but her students dressed like Breakfast at Tiffany's. She is creative and dedicated to doing her utmost in every way.

This by far one of the best librarians! She shares her love of reading and it’s importance to our elementary students. With her lessons, enthusiasm, encouragements, kind heart, helpful nature, she has made our students better! Coming from an area of low economic and many disadvantages, Mrs. Quiroz has made students believe in themselves and to be proud of their accomplishments no matter the obstacles they face!
