Many of her students come from very humble circumstances and arrive at school without basic supplies. She focuses on building a classroom environment that is structured, supportive, and deeply respectful of individual differences. She creates clear routines and visual supports to help students feel safe and successful.
Her classroom emphasizes kindness, patience, and consistency. She intentionally designs spaces that are sensory-friendly, provide calm-down tools, and celebrate every small step of progress. By building strong, trusting relationships with each student and maintaining a calm, predictable environment, she fosters a space where students can grow academically, socially, and emotionally at their own pace.
Ms. Bickers is a Distinguished Teacher for Dallas ISD and a TEA Exemplary Teacher. She is also a campus lead teacher and a model Special Education teacher for Dallas ISD.
The best special education teacher is one who truly has a heart to help her students grow in every area of their lives…academically, socially, emotionally, and personally. She sees beyond challenges and diagnoses, recognizing each child’s unique strengths, potential, and worth.
She advocates fiercely for her students, collaborates with families and colleagues, and tailors instruction to meet individual needs with creativity and dedication. She teaches life skills alongside academics, nurturing independence, resilience, and self-esteem.

Ms. Bickers is truly a champion for special ed students. I have seen her teach both ppcd and fls students. She has taught and pushed students beyond their limitations to truly become independent learners despite their disabilities . Her classroom is always organized and inviting and structured in a manner that creates the best learning environment for her students. As a principal and as an Executive Director, I gauge other specialized classrooms based on hers. I have had her observe others and had them go observe her in order to grow teachers. She is truly the most effective special education teacher that I have seen in all of my twenty three years in education.

Christine has a heart like no other for students with the highest needs. She has intentionally devoted her career to continuous growth so that children have a better chance at success. With a master’s degree specializing in autism, she leverages her expertise to elevate educators across Dallas ISD, strengthening instructional practices and building capacity in special education. She has led professional development for both new and veteran teachers, served in advisory roles to enhance district special education programming, and authored curriculum for extracurricular and summer learning initiatives.
For more than five years, Christine has served as a summer school program coordinator for her campuses, and for the past two years, she has facilitated district-wide trainings for all summer school coordinators—further demonstrating her leadership, knowledge, and influence. She consistently submits and earns DonorsChoose projects that expand learning opportunities for her students, reflecting both her creativity and her relentless advocacy.
Ms. Bickers exemplifies excellence in teaching and, even more importantly, excellence in the field of special education. She represents what we should all aspire to—a better educator, a better colleague, and a better human committed to a better future. I am incredibly proud of Christine for rightfully earning this prestigious recognition. Awards aside, she has already won in the most meaningful category—the category of Champion for Students with Special Needs.
