Margaret Miura was nominated by an anonymous student.

Ms. Miura stays late after school to teach students about Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Her school only has 8 students from grades 3-5 in this program, and they wouldn't have had the opportunity to learn about a lot of things without Ms. Miura. She makes learning fun and uses her own time and money to teach them. Even though her class is after school, students love going to her class to learn about science. Her class is from 2:30-4:30 every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

"Some kids think that we are crazy for staying late after school to go to her class, but I love it," said her nominator. "This year, she took us on a trip to another island to study astronomy because that is the theme for our FIRST Lego League competition this year. We didn’t have to pay anything, and our parents didn’t have to pay, either."

Last year, she helped her students write poems that were published in a book of young poets in America. This year, she plans to help them enter the state science fair and speech contest. Her students were afraid to enter because the contest is usually for older students, but now, they're excited to compete because she's giving them the confidence to try.

"Mrs. Miura is the best teacher we have ever had," said her nominator.

Mrs. Miura goes above, way above and beyond the call of duty. She is our Office Manager on our school campus and does so much to support our school and students. She prides herself on being an amazing teacher and facilitator for our STEM Club and challenges our students. She takes our students on field trips to other islands, local field trips to tie into their learning, competitions to challenge them, and breaks and weekends are used for continuous learning. Her passion for STEM allows her to continue to grow and work on making our students prepared for a world of work in the future. She is an amazing woman, teacher, office manager, team player, advocate, and overall model citizen. We hope that she will be considered to be a finalist for the Life Changer award.
