As a teacher, Ms. Bannan believes a positive classroom environment begins with connection, consistency, and celebration. She takes time to build authentic relationships with each student, learning their strengths, interests, and the unique challenges they face. By showing them that they are seen, heard, and valued every single day, she creates a space where students feel safe to take risks and be themselves.

In her classroom, her students enter a positive environment from the moment they walk through the door. She greets each one by name, with a smile, eye contact, and often a little personal check-in. She wants them to know this is their safe place where they are seen, heard, and celebrated every single day. She works intentionally to build strong relationships, not just with her students, but with their families, too. Trust and connection are everything to her, especially with her young learners.

She learns what makes each child light up, and she uses that to engage them through active learning, structured play, and hands-on experiences. Whether her students are learning math through movement or practicing literacy through storytelling and games, she makes sure learning feels exciting and accessible for every student. She also creates consistency and calm through clear expectations, visual routines, and flexible supports. She and her students practice kindness, talk about their feelings, and solve problems together.

When a student is struggling either academically or emotionally, she meets them with patience and support, not punishment. She believes every child can succeed with the right tools and the proper adult cheering them on. Above all, she celebrates growth. Whether it's a small win like raising a hand for the first time or a big leap like mastering a reading goal, she honors it. In her classroom, effort matters as much as outcome. She wants every student to leave her room each day knowing they matter, they're capable, and they belong here.

As a first-grade teacher, she serves students in one of the most foundational years of their education, where they are not only learning how to read, write, and work with numbers, but also how to manage their emotions, collaborate with others, and build confidence in themselves. Many of her students come into the classroom with big feelings, short attention spans, and a wide range of developmental needs. Some need extra movement to stay focused. Others need calming tools to regulate their emotions. Many need more visual and tactile learning experiences to stay engaged and make meaningful connections to the content. Ultimately, her goal is to build a classroom that meets the whole child.

Throughout her career as an educator, she's been committed to academic excellence, professional growth, and meaningful service to her school community. She holds Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Education, and she is a proud member of Kappa Delta Pi, the international honor society in Education that recognizes academic achievement and dedication to the field. She is also an Alumni Ambassador; she has remained actively involved in supporting future educators and advocating for best practices in teaching and learning.
