Mr. Sims is a very generous teacher he deserves this award and recognition , instead of him bringing down his own students he brings them up and supports them and cares for them.One of the reasons I say this because he gives me advise, listens to me and doesn’t judge others. Till this day he is my 1st most favorite teacher that I have ever known, we love Mr.Sims!!.

His service extends far beyond the classroom walls. He routinely conducts home visits, ensuring families feel seen, supported, and connected. When students express hunger or simply need a moment of care, he never hesitates to act. Whether offering fruit, water, or even purchasing full meals, he meets their needs with compassion and without question. He spends countless lunchtimes sitting with students, talking with them, encouraging them, and helping them navigate school and life with confidence.

though it may be biased. Mr Sims is , and will always be, one of my favorite teachers I've ever had. He not only teaches fairly, but treats every student like a person. he taught me to write essays like never before :) though he still hasn't gotten creative yet, I will still be waiting for when he does (this is a inside joke)
I am now a Junior in high school but I was once an 8th grader in Mr.Sims ELAR class. He changed my viewpoint in many ways by not only making me a better writer, but he taught me about real world problems and lessons that I realized are very essential and valuable. While I was very stubborn and not always wanting to learn, he always made things fun and definitely more interesting. Although he is straightforward, it is in a way that helps to not only shape but build character inspiring many individuals to this day. Mr.Sims gets to know you on a personal level in order to make you feel more welcome and heard. He helped to prepare me for my future and build my confidence to a different level. I used to be talked down to about my height but before I left for high school Mr.Sims told me to embrace it and not let other people put me down. To this day I am grateful that I could have Mr.Sims as a teacher and I hope he continues to make kids futures shine bright just like mine.

Mr.Sims is the rare kind of teacher one you meet once in a lifetime. My daughter has learned so much with him in honors English not just about the subject matter but herself as well. Mr.Sims is what every teacher should be caring and honest. He teaches these kids about the real world and prepares them to have confidence in every decision they make this year and in the future. He goes out of his way to let the kids have a bible study and attends sports events to cheer our students on. Mr. Sims does an amazing job of building connections with students. He creates a classroom environment where he encourages students to excel academically by providing rigorous lessons while supporting all types of learners, and also equips them with the skills needed to become productive members of society. They learn life lessons on how to be respectful, kind, and confident, as well as how to become people with integrity and empathy. He is a great mentor who will have a lasting impact on these young students' lives.

Mr. Sims was my teacher last year and he is really great. At first I was scared of him due to his stern presence, but I quickly warmed up to him. He was never mean to students, although some would call him "strict" (he really was not). Whenever I got in trouble, he wouldn't yell nor get bad or anything of the sort, but would pull me aside and ask if I was okay and what happened. This helped a LOT because as an autistic individual, it is hard for me to express my actual emotions, but he was always patient with me. He helped our classes be ready for high school ELAR, and made sure we could keep up. He also introduced us to some very important pieces of literature (example: the outsiders [my current hyperfixation that I love]). He also cared for his students outside of a professional environment. We always had an on-running joke where we asked what socks he was wearing because he always had colorful and funny socks (while always wearing a suit to school). He also supported his students outside of the school year. Last summer, I had a performance for the Austin College Summer Music Camp in Sherman. I emailed him the day before, asking him if he could come, not expecting an answer back at all because it was summer, and he probably had other things to do. After all the performances I went to my mother, and he was there. He actually came to watch the performances! I was crying tears of joy because I was so happy. He took time out of HIS day to come see MY performance. He was an amazing teacher and I wish I was still in his class. (There were some other things such as he gave some of us oranges, and me and him had an inside joke where I reminded him daily that I retained the information he gave us on the first day of school. Which was that he was in the military for 22 years, 6 months, and 28 days.)

Mr. Sims has been a big help throughout the school. He not only shows support and leadership in the classroom he shows it outside the classroom. He challenges the students to be better and step up to his level. He will go out of his way for any one who may be facing hard times or simply just needs someone to talk to. He has a passion to teach its not about the money its about his students he will do anything and everything to answer any and all questions we may have on a variety of subjects.

Mr. Sims made it his personal mission to help have a hand in shaping my child into the respectable young man he is trying to become - many teachers have played a part in helping raising him, because, yes, it takes a village. Mr. Sims even went a step further to show him grace when needed and an iron fist of accountability as well. Those impressions will follow my son when he looks back and thinks about his educators. Mr. Sims isn’t someone he will forget. He took the time to resonate with the kids on their level encouraging healthy debates in the form of essays on topics that were trending at the time. This helped inspire and spark a flame of interest in creativity and independent thinking. That’s so rare in our digital age where a computer or phone does the thinking - Mr. Sims got those kid’s brains thinking for themselves! How special!! Thank you, Mr. Sims! Mr. Sims is always very aware of his students. If they seem a bit different than normal he is always the first to check on them and making sure they are okay. He truly sees beyond just his content area to get to know his students.
Mr. Sims is the best teacher anyone could ask for. He has taught us so much in life in and out of school and no matter how much you think you know about life or the topic he is teaching us. When I first entered 8th Grade, me and I think a lot of students were intimidated by Mr. Sims. In fact, I think some would still describe him as strict on his students. But for me, Mr Sims is one of the most intellectual and inspirational role models that I have ever had the ability to meet. Mr. Sims has done things with my grandson (high functioning autism/dyslexia/ depressive disorder and taught him how to write an essay. He also taught him to dress for success and how to get through a job interview. There are many things he has accomplished that so many others have not (too many to list here). To say Mr Sims is extraordinary and rare is an understatement. He will be the teacher that my child has memories of for the rest of his life. I pray he wins this prestigious award as he is the one!

Mr. Sims is one of the best teachers I have ever had. He’s only been working at my school for two years but he received Teacher of the Year his first year, and he has received Teacher of the Month twice showing how great of a teacher he is. Having him as a teacher is a blessing.

My daughter who is in high school now still takes every chance she gets to visit Mr. Sims. He made her think outside of the box, really use her mind and flourish in her writing. She respected him and what he was teaching me loved every minute of his class. He attends athletic events, school dances and supports these kids in everything they do, not just his classroom.

One of the most vivid examples of Mr. Sims’ dedication to student support was learning that after his Friday surprise nomination, he had previously arranged a home visit to one of his students. That is ‘walking the talk’ and one of the reasons students and families appreciate his dedication to their success.
Mr. Sims has showed me what a hero and what a hard worker looks like. He has inspired me to change my life using one of the quotes of the day “You can’t heal in an environment that hurts you" He shows students not to cheat in life but instead to work for them selves. I had the privilege to work alongside Mr. Sims in Sherman ISD. He brought an energy to his classroom that can only be classified as electric. His students always knew first and foremost that he cared for them as people and would work tirelessly to ensure that they had the opportunity to shine. Though he instructed English courses, he’s a teacher of kids. Students still talk about the impact Mr. Sims made on their lives and the confidence he instilled for them to take the risks to let themselves grow.
